Hey all i was wondering if anyone could tell me what the nipple looking thing in the picture is for. Untill now i thought the bearing was one piece, but now that i read there is needle bearings in there could this be a grease nipple. I have removed the rubber cover and it does not look like a grease nipple.

Any help I am sure lots of you know what it is?

Erik [email protected]

It is on the truck in my sig 02/99 PSD 1tonSD

One more thing does anybody know what this plug under the dash is for?

That right there is the nipple that the vacuum line would attach to if you had the vacuum operated hubs. isnce youi have manual hubs, they just cap it off.

Well you might be able to but then they would be sure to fail when you needed them most and have to get out anyway. Most switch to manual hubs when the ESOF fails. Some are pre-emptive.

Personally I plow and am in and out of 4x4 about 50 times a day when it snows so this would be very counter productive for me. I just leave the hubs locked and grab for the shifter on the floor when entering a driveway.

I can't immagine the hassles of all the electronci crap freezing and leaking vacuum in the winter. *Shiver* Maybe I'm thinking of the old days when that crap never worked. I just like to feel the clunk in the shifter and know I'm going to go in the desired direction.

Only if the truck has ESOF.... while pretty much all of the steering knuckles have nipples, not all trucks had the lines, the PVH solenoid, and all the rest of the paraphenalia that is required to have vacuum operated hubs.

That kinda looks like Connector 217. There should be a corresponding connector as it's just called an inline connector. I found one circuit coming from the main light switch going thru C217 and then to the remote keyless entry block, and also a circuit going from RKE to the GEM thru that connector.

I suppose if you don't have RKE, then maybe that connector would be flopping in the breeze. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Was that "Attached" to the dash at the bottom? Not just hanging there? (If it was it is the AIC plug I bet...)

No because I imagine there are more internal things that are different. (Seal ect...) I may be wrong, also if you don't have the ESOF, on your dash, and do not have the lines from the vacume pump to the hubs ect...
May even be a different Pump, who knows... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif
Do some research and make sure it is a viable swap if possible at all.

Ok, read farther down, Grampy covered it I guess!
