OK, but earlier 6spds were 250hp and had converters.
So what's up with that?

Looks to me like ALL 6spds had them regardless of hp rating. Only a few Autos got them, I'm guessing from state emmission requirements (Cal. isn't the only one with tighter restrictions)

Not exactly true. There were no '99-up stick shifters with 250 HP.

All "early" '99s had a cat.

None of the '99.5 thru Y2Ks had a cat, and they all had 235 HP.

One confuser is the International sticker on the engine of some 7.3Ls said 250 HP, but the Ford sticker on the same engine said 235 HP. International designed that engine so it could have a max of 250 HP with International tuning (computer), but Ford didn't use that tuning and installed a Ford computer (PCM) which resulted in 235 HP. So if you have a '99 thru 2001 7.3L stick shifter that you think had 250 factory HP, you are in error. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

In 2001 model year, none of the automatics had a cat, and all the automatics had 250 HP. "Early" 2001s with stick shift had 235 HP and didn't have a cat.

Later in the 2001 model year, the stick shifters were bumped up to 275 HP and added a cat.

For 2002 and 2003 model years, none of the 7.3L automatics had a cat, and all the stick shifters had a cat.

Nope. All early 99's had a cat. '99.5-up 7.3L stick shifters with 235 HP didn't have a cat. 2001-up 7.3L stick shifters with 275 HP all had a cat.

California emissions had nothing to do with cats on '99-up 7.3L PSDs. All early '99s had a cat. Nothing assembled after December 1998 with an automatic and a 7.3L PSD had a cat.

All 6.0L PSds have a factory catalytic converter.

Also,,id like to know what temperature is the combustion chamber air in the cylinder at those previously stated conditions, before fuel is injected,,,and what temp is the combustion when fuel is entered and burning takes place? Sorry,,for all the data requests,,,im trying to work out some modification ideas if i can get some of the basics from knowledgeable people here....thanks to all for smarts provided on the list!!!

I have an 02 excab 4x4 with a handshaker, it has a cat. I am thinking about flanging the cat on both ends to bolt it in or out for calif smog. Can anyone think of any issues with that? I have an old edge evo programmer i use also from my 96 Td i use to have, i go back to stock program for each smog test and then reload the towing program.

I don't see any issues doing that. You could also hollow it out. They don't actually sniff the exhaust it's just a smoke test and visual inspection.

The edge Evo might be smog legal. Check the ca.arb website.

My old superchips 1705 my dad uses is smog legal.

Ya, thanks. I think i will do the flanged delete pipe, in calif you never know what the libtards are going to do next. They may require a sniffer test in the future. If i am cutting it out anyway, i might as well, weld up a delete pipe with header collectors as well. THen if they do the sniffer one day, i am still good.
