I need to get a new CB and was wondering what yall are running out there. I was lookin at the Galaxies. Had a Cobra 29 but need something that will reach out there a little more and not so basic. Whats your setup(antenna..placement in truck..etc)?

Just picked up a Galaxy DX959, not installed yet because I still have to scrape some extra cash together after the mortgage payment to get a Wilson 5000.

I have the same setup as "conifers4". The Galaxy has been peaked and tuned, the Wilson 5000 is mounted a few inches back of center of the cab, approx 6" behind my Wilson cellular antenna. Great performance and distance.

I only use the CB when I'm towing. When not towing, a quick twist and the antenna is removed/stored, and a plastic cap screws over the connection.

Good luck

Gmoore....Glad to hear that your happy with that setup. How did you run the coax into the cab. Did you go through the third brake light? If so is it difficult, I haven't really taken a look at it yet as far as how I'm going to run it.

Sorry about late reply. Was gone for 8 days.

The antenna is hard mounted (drilled thru the roof)versus a mag mount.

As previously stated, small plastic cap (came with the antenna) covers the connection when the antenna is off. It is barely noticeable unless your looking for it. It also seals very well against water and snow.

Good luck

Running a Cobra 29 LTD...peaked, tweaked, uppers and lowers off of a Wilson.

Back in the day this rig was screaming through a sweet 16, sweeping a set of Dosy's....man I miss that amp.

i think i am prob going to stay with the galaxy....had a cobra classic but need some more channels for hunting. Sorry i havent replied but ive been watching what everyone has to say! I know the best place to mount the antenna is on the roof, but I am not to keen on cutting a hole in the roof and I dont preferably want a magnet mount.(had that last time and it sucked!) Where else could i put the antenna that would give me a good radius still. Should i try those dual fiberglass antennas on the bed(but stacks are going on next week) or should I also look at a mount like the radio antenna but on the other side of the truck?

Dboy11, There is no benefit to having dual whips unless one of them is a "dummy". They would be way to close together to make any noticeable improvement.

YouTube - Aaron Tippin - There Ain't Nothin' Wrong With The Radio

Sometimes she runs, sometimes she don't
More than once she's left me on the side of the road
The older she gets the slower we go
But there ain't nothin' wrong with the radio
She needs a carburetor, a set of plug wires
She's ridin' me around on four bald tires
The wipers don't work and the horn don't blow
But there ain't nothin' wrong with the radio

I've got sixteen speakers crossin' my back dash
A little bobbin' dog watchin' everybody pass
Dual antennas whippin' in the wind
Lord, there ain't a country station that I can't tune in
She ain't a Cadillac and she ain't a Rolls
But there ain't nothin' wrong with the radio

I got stopped by a cop late last night
Out-of-date tags and no tail lights
He said I oughta run you in but I'm lettin' you go
Because there ain't nothin' wrong with your radio
I got the best lookin' gal in my hometown
I asked her last time that i took her out
Honey, tell me what it is that makes you love me so
She said there ain't nothin' wrong with your radio

I've got sixteen speakers crossin' my back dash
A little bobbin' dog watchin' everybody pass
Dual antennas whippin' in the wind
Lord, there ain't a country station that I can't tune in
