I have a question related to the body/seats on my 05 6.0 lariat that so far, only a ford body tech would know the answer to. I thought there was a user that was a diesel tech or soemthing that worked at a dealership. Anyway, while he may not know the answer, maybe he can get in touch with someone that does....

My question involves the seat back on the seats that are NOT captains chairs. The passenger's seat back is not square on the seat itself. It is not 90 degrees to the base of the seat, in fact, its quite off. There should be a way to loosen a nut or two on the seat back and square it up, and then retighten it, after all, thats how its assembled. I just dont know what to do, and if i take it to the dealer, though they promise they can fix it, they will flash the engine.

The dealership will not reflash your engine for a seat repair. They will not waste their time or money doing an engine warranty related flashed for a non-engine related complaint. Without a specific engine related complaint, they will not get paid for reflashing every truck that arrives in the shop.

I can only go on what the service writer said, and he assured me that the dealership will note the VIN when writing up the repair, and it will flag as have an outstanding recall, which will have to be performed. My notice says nothing about voluntary, and he said the same thing, and that their policy will not allow it to leave with outstanding recalls...
I have had 3 dealers tell me this. Besides that, this and my surrounding counties are extrememly environmentally tree huggerish, and since this is an emissions thing, i have no doubt they will jump all over it.

Jason -- Take the truck to Champion Ford off I-10 west. They will not flash your truck if you instruct them not to.

There is no adjustment. there is a simple welded hinge point on the inboard side, and is bolted on the latching side. the nuts are welded to the lower and upper seat frames. I will get back to you, I will go look at a couple and see what variation there is in what you describe. I just hopped in an 01 and the passenger front was very noticable, enough that it caught my eye, I was just moving it. Plus, do you have a dealership close that has a bodyshop that writes there own warranty tickets? I do here, I don't take anything to the service department unless it is customer requested. I get all the glass, seatbelt, trim (inner and outer), paint, adjustments, latches, wind noise, waterleaks. You get the point. I'll get back and let you know what I found with what is on the lot.

I am a drivetrain master, so the seat I can not help with...but why do you not want recalls done?? There are various driveability issues the reprogram takes care of, including trans related issues. I have not had any complaints on the reflash. I would recommend doing it.

Which recall are you refering to? I have not had mine done yet either (05E15). Not because I,m afraid to, but because I have not had the time to take it in and I figured I would have it done when I had a reason to take it in. I think you should just have it done, as I have not heard any downsides to it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

I understand the question a little better now. I did not realize that you were referrring to recalls. An entirely different matter. In fact, I dropped my truck off today for ANOTHER EGR valve (3rd one in 25000 miles) and they checked for flash recalls.

My biggest complaint has been fuel mileage. I calculate mileage on each tank by hand. Each and every flash has lowered my fuel mileage. The best mileage that I get these days is 15.7 on the highway at 60 mph empty. I am under 10 towing my 6800 lb boat. I never thought I would see the day that a diesel got under 10 mpg towing such a light load. Of course, I am certain that my 3rd bad EGR valve in 25000 miles has a lot to do with it too.
