hey guys I have a 2005 ford 6.0. I am purchasing a sct itsx tuner and would like to get a custom tune purchased/made. here are the list of things I have done:

blue fuel spring mod
atlas 40 ficm
bigger smoother bent intercooler pipes
intake elbow
cold air filter
4" exhaust with no cat
egr delete, newer egr cooler
cat-1 certified coolant

who is the best to get a tune from?

Innovative or Gearhead Automotive. Know your stock strategies when you call in. You can read them with the SCT.

We do them as well.

SCT is different than the rest. They've put the tuning power in the hands of each dealer. SCT built the Advantage Tuning Software and an incredible line of devices. Each device has SCT's dyno proven Stategy tunes, but can also hold custom tunes written by their dealers. Custom tunes can account for modifications and parameters that a customer might need or want (there's a difference). Not all dealers have the training or ability to tune every car or truck that rolls in. You'll need to find out for yourself or give SCT a call to find out who they recommend in your area.

That said, we were the 17th dealer to get started with SCT back in 2002. Eric at Inovative is a great source. We are as well. Interview the folks offering their services and choose wisely. Not all dealers are the same. You can have 5 different dealers make 5 Custom tunes and they will all be different and give you different results. Find the guys with the most experience and the thickest "little black book".

I hope your research leads you to us.

I just went to your website and this is all I found in regards to custom tuning.... "For those with custom applications or higher hp requirements, we offer SCT Custom Tuning Products. From Mustangs to the baddest Powerstroke, we have the custom tuning options to get the job done."

Could you elaborate more on your custom tunes?

I also am looking for a tuner. Im running the canned street tune on an X4. I only have a blue spring mod as of now, I have plans to do much more but still figuring out what. Would it be beneficial to have a tune made for a nearly stock truck? What price ranges are the tunes usually?

Custom tunes are always beneficial. Most people look at all 6.0s s the same, but there are actually quite a few stock strategies in the PCM and TCM. A tuner will use your stock strategy as a base and go from there, creating a tune that's actually tailored to your truck instead of a generic tune. This will translate into more power and a smoother application.

They're very user friendly, but on your 6.0, i wouldn't tune it to extreme because your post didnt mention that you had new head bolts installed. You might want to upgrade your head gasket and ring seals along with your headbolts. These stock items are likely to fail if your running a tunner.

It really just depends on the 6.0 and the user. I've seen bone stock 6.0s kick a head gasket at 40k. My own truck was tuned hot from 12k, and finally lost a HG at 120k. Did the tuner have something to do with that? Maybe, but the real question is, when would it have happened anyway if it wasn't tuned?

Don't get me wrong, the head bolt situation on the 6.0 is a glaring design flaw. I'm all for bulletproofing, and being preemptive about it rather than waiting for failure. Its just that all 6.0s are going to need an upgrade to head studs. You'll never hear about one that went 300k on stock bolts, regardless of tuning.

So, yes, by all means do all the bulletproofing, and I'd suggest getting the truck bulletproofed BEFORE spending a lot on go fast parts, because otherwise you end up with a broken truck and no money to fix it, which sucks. But I also recommend bulletproofing any 6.0 you buy.
