I just took a quick look at summitracing.com and they have heads for these Ford applications.
4.6L/281, 7.5L/460, 5.8L/351, 5.0L/302, 4.7L/289, 6.9L/420, 7.0L/427, 2.9L/177, 6.4L/390, 7.0L/428, 3.9L/239

Not to mention all the applications for Chevy, Chrysler etc.
Why in the world would there be so little interest in developing a cylinder head for our trucks.
God forbid a 32V application, how 'bout just some good old ported heads.

Don't the major players in aftermarket parts see the potential here?

Let's say you drop 100,000 for the molds, and another 30,000 for tooling, manufacturing etc.
Charge 2,000 a set for heads. 130,000 / 2,000 = 65 pairs of heads.

Don't you think there are 65 people in the world who would pay for a set of heads?

What am I missing here, can't the Dodge boys already get heads too? These engines have been out for 12 years, it's time.

Im sure there might be something in the works, but you got to remember The "go fast diesel" crowd hasnt been around long... only last year did we get a magazine just for diesel's, and the tuner market is really starting to grow. Shoot I remember when i bought my truck almost 3 years ago.. there wasnt 1/10th the amount of info, people modding there trucks, or parts out there.

I have been involved with designing heads from scratch, the cost is $250-$300,000 dollars on the average once completed. A engine block you are looking at $500,000 to $750,000. A quality designed 7.3 head would cost atleast $300.000 because of the head design(injectors, oil rails and etc). I can't see the finally product selling for less than the $4,000.00-$5,000.00 range per set, there just is not enough demand.

If it cost 300k to design, 100 sets @ 3g's would pay for that, a little higher but still doable I think. I know there's costs of production involved, but still yet.

...and how can there be a demand? There is no product, I think if they were available and the builders started using them, they would be more and more demand for them.
Especially as the 1/4 mile and hp figures climb for this engine.

[/ QUOTE ]You not only need to make a profit to pay the employee's, the aluminum, the casting company, and etc. The cost is just not the initial design cost, its also manufacturing the product. So you think that diesel heads will sell on the level of the gasoline market?. Look at how much the ETP LSX heads cost($3,000.00 and up), and those are the most popular performance engines to modify now. Our heads may sell on the level of the Ford yates style head which cost about $2200.00 for bare castings that need to be CNC or hand ported and filled with valvetrain hardware. I wish it could be done cheaper, but I don't see it happening.
