I just bought a F-250 6.4L and took it to the Ford dealership to have it checked out and while there they told me not to use Rotella Oil in the 6.4, something about it not being foan resistant or something like that. Question: Why Not Rotella? What are you guys using in your 6.4's?:read:

CJ-4 Rated diesel motor oil is what is required. Pay attention the 15-40W on the bottle or whatever is may say.

Look at your diesel supplement for the correct oil according to the temps and how you use the truck.

My opinion is with this truck you need to do 5K oil changes. So unless you are in a cold cold climate then the motorcraft oil does just fine.

You can pick it up and the motorcraft filter at wally world too.

Also let me add...only use OEM fuel and oil fiters on this truck. Aftermarket stuff does not fit correctly.

Rotella is just fine and a huge percentage of owners use it. I use the motorcraft because it is cheaper and comes in 5 qt jugs so 3 jugs and no left over. As Senix said, use only a Fram or motorcraft oil filters (same filter different box) anything else and you will have problems.

The dealers push to up sell you so (like you said) i guess they had the Delo on hand in bulk. Had the flash done on my truck this morning. They said i need new tires, coolant change (because it is green) and an oil change... Truck has 6k miles on it=no tires, coolant is yellow and nitrate additive is blue=green and oil is changed every 6mo because of my low mileage per year... :nono: Every time i walk out of there i feel the need for a bath... :jester:

Thanks for the replys, I Guess you guys in here are not Amsoil fans, i guess because of the price becuase everything I hear about Amsoil is great. Thoughts? Forgot to mention that my truck has had the DPF/CAT delete done, AFE Cold Air Intake installed, and the H&S Mini Max put on. So far love the power and with all that done I have already seen my City go from 11.5/12.5 to 14.5/15.5 and the Highway MPG go from 14.5/15 to 19.5/20 MPG. Love it! A few more things and I hope to see 21 or 23 hwy. will report after tonneau cover install, all fluids changed to full synthetic and maybe a tire size change to lower highway RPM's.

Rotella T6 is a good oil. I've used it in my 03 and 08 diesels without any issues.

Fram and Motorcraft oil filters are not the same, cut the lids off and inspect the insides, the Fram is cheep.

I have used shell rotella with NO problems. 5w40 synthetic API CJ-4. Always with ford filters, but I am back to the MotorCraft synthetic oil now because my service dept decided to give me 2 free oil changes for incorrectly diagnosing and fixing my cruise control problem (no cruise), and took longer to fix than I was told it would take. At almost $200. per synthetic oil change for this beast, they can take as long as they want to fix something if these oil changes keep comin for free. :)
