I think this will help clear the air...I realize the poll is not scientific but, I have many thousands of miles on the WW without balancing in my truck....I think it'll be okay. It all about percentages right?

The WW comes already balanced. It's just not the stock wheel thats balanced. Unless the stock wheel is the balance point of the complete mass, then a pre balanced WW is no problem. I have had no trouble with mine.

umm... any way to view the poll with out voting?... as the WW is in the future so I would be curious to see the results, so If youve voted you may want to post the results as things go by...keeps those who do not have a ww from voting just to see the results. could scew the results...

Dr.Denny-

I realize that the WW comes balanced, but the experts contend that entire assembly should be balanced together...This poll will help everyone understand the risk as a percentage.

I completly understand. But in the years that they have been around and those of that put them on. I have not had any trouble nor anyone that I know that has one. But people need to know all the options.

So far....14% have balanced, 85% have not balanced, 100% success rate between the two....so far.

I have both the ATS and the WW. I am thinking about pulling the wicked wheel. I lost power after installing WW and the noise is annoying on long road trips. Almost unbearable if pulling a trailer.

buy power you mean you lost boost?
buy noise do you mean turbo whisel?

To be honest the only people I've heard say anything about a turbo pukeing after the install of a new compressor wheel are the turbo shops that are getting paid for ballanceing them. I've yet to hear of anyone on here or anywhere else who has actually had a failure.

Nobody ever said it was going to detonate on the spot.

It will just perform better, spool better and run quieter when it's assembly balanced. .

Garrett turbo engineer that used to peruse this site back in the day said in his opinion, that it should be assembly balanced.

It's a more professional way of doing things since your going to be pushing to the turbo beyond what the factory intended almost constantly with your upgrades, why not spend the few extra bucks and have it done?

Or just leave your stock wheel in place and go with the ATS housing instead? It widens the turbos range of operation a bit more than just the wheel alone, increases choke flow a bit, it's quieter than the WW and no disturbing of the turbo rotating assembly is required. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Armchair...

None of the mods we do would EVER be endorsed by FORD....Such as: chips/tuners, performance airbox/filters, big exhaust systems...etc.

Do any of these mods really detonate anything on the spot?

This poll is to help inform the shade-tree mechanic that they can "fix" their turbo surge for less than $100 and do it all themselves...and nothing will detonate on the spot.

I have not put the truck on a dyno since adding the WW. I have noticed since the WW install that I have ALOT more black smoke. The boost builds differently, it builds quicker, but the smoke thing is almost out of control with the WW. Not sure exactly why this is, but I do feel the truck has lost power.

The noise of the WW is highly annoying (to me) while pulling the trailer. It is a good ten times louder with the WW, than with just the ATS housing and stock wheel.

My suggestion to anybody considering an upgrade is one or the other, but not both. Unless your into the noise thing.
