Which replacement is better for performance? Im really thinking about the wicked wheel but was wondering if there are any better options like the one banks offers. Also will a new wheel help or hurt my gas mileage?

They are the same...just pay the extra bucks to say you have a "Banks" turbo wheel. There'll be no noticeable affect to fuel mileage

XDP is where I got my wheel at. Be prepared for a 2-3month wait. of course it sat in my console for a year before I put it in.

I have a wicked wheel I'll sell for 40 bucks shipped. Never been used. No, it will do nothing for performance. It only helps relieve surge if you have any. It actually is a less efficient wheel, and may cause a slight drop in boost pressure, which I doubt will be noticeable.

It does supposedly whistle a little louder. If you have no surge, though, there is absolutely no reason to go with a wicked wheel.

You get surge when you chip or program these trucks, because your adding more fuel and air increasing cylinder pressure and boost psi. Surge you can hear much better when you have an after market air filter that flows better than stock. You can and will hear it most often when letting of the throttle after accelerating or most common climbing steep grades, It sounds like its coughing out the intake, and can cause premature turbo failure. you can hear a turbo surge with a stock air box, but it is a lot less noticeable. hope this helps.

Itll perform better though, right?
Unless you are getting surge, no. The WW does flow less air and does whistle a lot louder...like a 6.0. I could hit about 29psi with my stock wheel and I can hit about 21psi with the WW. But I did not see any performance loss and I have no more surge. I think I should be building more than 21 psi but I think I may have screwed my waste gate solenoid up when I took the housing off.

You'll be able to see surge in your boost gauge fluttering too, and boost will quit climbing. My truck used to surge horribly when I got on it and started accelerating in my 140 hp tune. Sounds cool, but not good for the turbo.

Not much to do Turbo wise to get more power. A Turbo only does as well as the amount of fuel u are running can push it. U need a chip with custom tunes for more power. Easy safe horsepower. And cheap for what u get. Conduct a search for dp-tuner, custom tunes, and custom chip and you'll see what I mean

I suggest dp-tuner. There are several great 7.3 tuners with good reputations. I would suggest an intake upgrade and muffler delete also. Search for it there's tons of info

Along with tunes, gauges are a must! At least boost gauge and egt gauge. And tranny temp gauge if auto

I was thinking about a snow kit with a tymar intake then a dp f5 tuner. The snow kit im looking at comes with an electronic monitor with all that. I already ordered a 5" straight pipe and it has 7" rolled tip.

Could a BOV help with that instead of replacing the wheel? Has anyone ever put one on their truck?

No you don't use blowoff valves on these trucks, a WW will stop surge 90% of the time..or a ported housing.

Really isn't a reason for water meth...IMO

Best option is a TS chip so your not locked into just one tuner.

Everyone wants to start modding real quick and you have to do the right steps. Forget about WW, go ported housing. 5" exhaust is overkill but you ordered it already. Tymar intake is good. You'll need a boost fooler if you go too high on boost as well or it'll de-fuel.

Any good tuner dp, ts, etc even on it's own will totally wake up your truck.

Don't do anything without gauges. HPOP will be next after you experience the 140hp race tune and set the check engine light with a P1211 code all the time. Or get a "no codes" tune.

Have fun.

I recommend not adding a boost fooler if you stick with the stock turbo. The truck defuels at 25 psi for a reason-the stock turbo can't handle much more. So I liked leaving my truck so it would do just that while I had the stock turbo, so I wasn't tempted to grenade it.
