I was pulling the pass in 2nd and pulled over at the top to wait for a friend to catch up (it was a dodge he he). Anyway, I forgot and left the tranny in "2" and when i went to take off the thing seemed really gutless and took forever to get going. I didn't notice it shifting up so I assumed that when you put your tranny into "2" it is stuck in that gear and won't go to first till you move the selector. Is this correct?
Thanks.

Yes, it's an ancient Ford tradition, supposed to limit wheel torque for taking off on slippery surfaces but I think it's mainly because that's the way they've always done it, and I prefer the GM way where the gear selected is the highest gear attained barring engine overspeed. I can limit wheel torque with my right foot.

It will stay in 2nd all the time if you have the selector in 2nd gear. It will not down shift. The TC will lock up if you get going fast enough though. I like the idea of being able to manually put it in the gear I want it in if I want it in that gear rather than it just shifting normal up to the gear I have it in.

It's a great feature, I like it as well. My Dodges were the same way, I always thought most trucks were /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif
