I replaced a broken Wing Vent with a used one from a bone yard in my 97. All the rubber looks and feels good but it whistles pretty loudly when I'm driving. My wife can just about stop the whistle by pulling in on the handle but can't quite stop it. I do notice the replacement vent does not close as tightly as the original vent. Any ideas on how to fix the whistle?

wing vent

try spraying the rubber gasket with silicone to make it more flexible.
Good luck

If you replaced the entire assembly with a used one ,,put your old locking handle on the replacement...

JRCs suggestion is the only one I haven't tried. I have been thinking of stacking up layers of aluminum tape under the latch to see if I can tighten the vent enough to quiet the whistle to a tolerable level. The shiny tape shouldn't look too bad. Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming.

When I had my F-100 I had that issue. I think I glued a quarter to the frame under the window latch/lock to tighten the closure. It was kinda a bear to open, but did not get used much. I did not like the whistle either. The quarter stopped it...

I had some jackbags break the same lil window on my truck. Purchased the whole assembly, but opted to replace JUST the glass. I will be using Titan 380 adhesive made by ADCO to seal the window in the frame. I didnt want to deal with any quirks.

Similar problem here, some jerk broke out my passenger vent a few years back. I too replaced just the glass--cost a fortune at the local glass place but I had no choice at the time. Whistled badly, even putting a spacer under the lock. Finally I put electrical tape all around it on the inside, not too noticeable and stopped the whistle. Can't really open the vent but I never use it anyways. Maybe one day I'll put black RTV sealant and just keep 'er shut forever.
