They should but it will reduce there already limited range. With new batteries they can work ~10 feet away but as the batteries die the range goes to 0. The Gyration stuff probably has a better range since it is intended to be used farther away.

How are you going to connect the monitor? Can't you put the wires for the keyboard/mouse through that hole?

Possibly if you get a Bluetooth unit (~30 foot range), but this will require you to have a Bluetooth receiver in your computer. We have three Rf based wireless keyboard/mouse combos at home. All require the receiver (connected via USB) be less than a foot away.

A good bluetooth wireless mouse/keyboard will work 30 to 50 feet line-of-site. I do it quite often at work.

I purchase Dell's wireless mouse/kb combo for my staff and I personally use a logitech mx 3200 mouse/kb combo. Both work great.

I wouldn't put the receiver too far away. I have a Kensington one and the receiver needs to be within a couple of feet to really get any reliable mousing. Why don't you just hook the mouse receiver up to a long usb cord or whatever type plug you are using and put it by the monitor so it is close to the mouse.

The monitor must be hooked to the computer. If you can hook a monitor to it, you can hook a mouse and keyboard to it. It is not rocket science, just cabling.

Actually you can go wireless with everything. They make wireless KVM switches (Keyboard, Video and Mouse). Expensive devices though. Google "wireless KVM" and there will be lots of info. Performance, especially on high end video can be a little weak, but I haven't tested these in over a year. Maybe they are pretty tight now...

If you don't want to shell out the $$$ for this, then like others suggested, I would go bluetooth. But if you are already running a video cable through the wall, then you can just run your KB and mouse too. Might need to get extension cables though.

I prefer Logitech or Microsoft when it comes to KB's and Mice. Both have performed well. Both companies offer wireless bluetooth combo's.

The receiver for my wireless keyboard/mouse is always falling behind the desk onto the floor lol. I gave up keeping it on the desk after the 10th+ fishing session trying to retrieve it. It works flawlessly down there.

Although I am a big blue tooth fan, the BT stuff requires constant recharging. Therefore IMO I wouldn't consider it myself for PC duty.

I know what you mean, all of our towers sit on the floor, I put our recievers on top of the towers with double sided tape.

I am wanting to locate my computer in the utility room

You need to make sure the utility room has adequate ventilation to keep the computer unit cool enough to not fry expensive circuits. It would cut down on some computer noise in the office.

If you use your CD unit(s) frequently, it will more inconvenient.

I have a Logitech VX Revolution cordless laser mouse for notebooks and after reading this I tried it. The 'back' button worked through a wall.

I have seen computers put in a lot of small holes, If you have a good box with good processor fans that is the least of your worries. Our server room at work is just normal A/C now. Course it is almost empty. Forty by twenty, when originally built it was full. Now we have four boxes in there. Plus our network rack. That used to be in it's own room. Our telephone system takes more space then our computer system.

You have a much better system than mine. I use a ~3year Logitech unit (don't remember the model number) and if the receiver even goes behind the monitor I lose the signal.

I just took my mouse and left the room with my computer shut the door walked about 20 ft away and the mouse still worked. COOL! didn't think I could leave the room and it would still work. You definitely do not need to be inline of sight, it works nicely through the wall.

I took mine in the other room, clicked, and it unlocked my truck. Right clicked and it started. Gotta remember that and the phone if I ever lock myself out of my truck.

Does your display have USB connections on it? Many of the newer LCD displays have built in USB hubs. If so, you could connect the Heyboard and mouse to the display then have only the display cables going back to the PC. Or, look at getting a seperate USB hub that can be brought out to the desk.

Either way, this will give you USB connections at the desk so you can connect USB devices such as cameras or memory sticks without having to go to another room where the computer is to connect them.
