I'm going to start running W85 in my truck in the next few weeks as soon as all my supplies get ordered/shipped and I can do my first filtration. I'm going to go with a pabiodieselsupply 120gph centrifuge setup for my 2000 PSD. With the centrifuge, it will be extremely clean at .5 microns. My source of fuel will be a mixture of synthetic/non synthetic WMO & ATF.

Here are my questions:

1.)Can I just start running W85 immediately or do I need to wean the truck onto a W85 mixture?

2.) If I run out for whatever reason, can I immediately switch back to a few tanks of straight D2 on occasion?

3.) Is there any problem with running large amounts of synthetic?

4.)Any problem running a random mixture of WMO & ATF with 15% UG?

5.) Any problems with dumping a mixture of W85 into a tank half full of straight D2?

I had about 5 gallons D2 in my tank. Simply put 10 gallons W85 into the tank and ran it. Seems to run fine... no weaning for me. Haven't tried it but I'm pretty sure you can run any of the WMO & ATF with each other and D2. The only thing that you don't want to do is run W85 with the WVO. I've heard that can cause bad things to happen.

I would be prepared to do a couple of filter changes. WMO has a tendency to clean out a fuel system. You won't be going to a different type of fuel, as much as a different mixture of the same basic type of fuel.

Absolutely no problem at all, running D2 with W85/WMO.

3.) Is there any problem with running large amounts of synthetic?
Some have reported issues, with synthetic oils not burning very well. I tried burning some synthetic one time and it didn't burn too good for me.

4.)Any problem running a random mixture of WMO & ATF with 15% UG?
5.) Any problems with dumping a mixture of W85 into a tank half full of straight D2?
Go for it!

Hello you should start with no more then a 50/50 mix. You can mix it in with diesel or use diesel whenever you want. I don't know much about burning synthetic oils. Because all the oils i have are petro oils. Remember a couple of key facts.
1) Filter oil/mix really really good
2) Make sure there is no water in the oil.

Good Luck

I learned that lesson the hard way!

I got 110 gallons of the stuff I'm running right now. It was from a marina and the owner warned me that they were mostly synthetics. I haven't had any trouble with it as of yet. I did mix it into my big storage container so it was probably 50/50 synthetic/dino.

Thanks for answering all my questions. Glad to hear synthetic isnt a total deal killer but should be avoided if possible. Most cars in my area run synthetic so it will certain account for a good percentage of oils.

Since I'll be using a centrifuge, can I run W85 through the centrifuge? It would seem that the contaminants would separate easier in the centrifuge if had already added the 15% UG into the mix. Are there flammability issues with running W85 through the centrifuge?

synthetic is great.
My order of preference: hydraulic, ATF, Synthetic car oil (usually thin), car oil, diesel oil (plugs processing filters....)

Another question: How do you guys mix in your 15% UG?

It seems like doing it in the same 55 gallon drum to be used to centrifuge would make most sense. From there, I would use a transfer pump to pump from the 55 gallon drum to my truck tank. The only problem is, almost all transfer pumps are not rated for gasoline. Is it ok to run w85 through a pump not rated for gasoline?

And for that matter, anyone have a specific suggestion for a 12v transfer pump? There are certainly nicer ones, but this one looks like it might work:

all of us I know of use filters and not a centrifuge.

all of us use a different pump then you are considering.

I pour the gasoline on top of the oil, then mix it by blowing bubbles with my air compressor/ air nozzle up through the oil.

hope it works for you!

I get all my oil from a BMW dealership, probably 98% synthetic, and I've never had a problem. Runs great IMO and easy to thin out.
