Hey everyone so I have a 1996 f350 7.3 and for some reason it won't start! It was working fine a week ago then Monday (Dec 11th ) I drove to school came out 40 min later and it wouldn't start so I thought the starter froze up i live in Iowa it's cold so I banged on the starter and got it to start after 20 min or so. Then I go to the gym and same thing except this time nothing worked to get it going so I let it sit for a day in the parking lot came back next day it started so I drove it home replaced the starter and thought I was good to go drove to my girlfriends house and went to leave and had a buddy help toe it home because it wouldn't start so I replaced the starter relay and solenoid and it still won't start I turn the key all my power comes on turn it to start it and nothing not a crank or anything just a klick from the relay what else could it be ?thanks for reading hope you can help

If you're sure you're hearing a click under the hood when you turn the key to START (the clicks you hear with the turn to RUN don't count), then we can pretty-much rule out the ignition switch, clutch/neutral switch (depends on which tranny you have), and associated wiring; that stuff _should_ all be good. Important question is, where is the click coming from, and how loud/prominent a click?

If it's just a moderate "click", and if it's from the fender, then I would focus on the relay, or the wire going from the relay down to the starter.

If it's a louder "CLICK", and it's coming from down by the starter, then the relay is most likely good, and I would focus down by the starter. That could be the starter itself (esp. if it works intermittently by whacking it as you've been doing), the terminal for the BIG starter wire coming from the passenger-side battery, or the big wire itself. Could also be a main battery ground issue.

My guess would be ipr, icp sensor, or bad injector orings.
Should start right up after sitting 40 minutes, even without glowplugs.

madpogue gave you a few things to check.

Is it a automatic or a 5 speed and have you tried starting with the transmission in neutral?

You can also jump the terminals on the fender solenoid and see if it starts. It is easiest with a automatic, with a 5 speed make sure that the brake is set and the transmission is in neutral.
