My truck is a 96 psd. I had to take out the filter bowl and remove the fpr to fix a fuel leak. I put every thing back together and It starts fine. I let it sit idle for 20 min to check for leaks. All is good.I hop in to go fill the tanks up and back out of the carport and the truck dies. I turned the key back on and the wts does not come up. I checked the fuses and the number 13 is out under the hood. I read somewhere on here that the fuel heater could be the problem. I unplugged the fuel heater and replaced the fuse and the truck will turn over but not start. The wts light did come on after changing the fuse. Any advice would be great.

The first thing that I would do is recheck the fuses, especially the number 9 maxi under the hood and I would use a volt ohm meeter to check it. Next would be the oil level in the HPOP. No smoke means that the injectors are not fireing or you are not getting any fuel to them.

Make sure the IPR is still plugged in too. Also try to inspect the wiring for it as well since the wiring is part of the fuel bowl harness. Cheers!

Will do on all those things. Not to sound dum, but where is the Hpop located?
Checked the fusses again, I did forget to screw the harness back to the bowl, but everything was plugged in.
I'm still waiting to here back where to look for the hpop.
Happy new year

The HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pump) is a rectangular box located on top of the engine just in front of the fuel filter canister. The oil pressure sending unit is screwed into it and there is a square inspection plug. Remove the plug and make sure the oil level is within 1 inch of the top. If not, top it off with engine oil and try re-starting again. Sometimes if you crank a lot and it doesn't start the HPOP will drain out of oil and you'll never restart.

filter problems

Hey, thanks for the reply! Im new at working on diesels. Im going to check the oil in the HPOP now. I ve got a 96 F-350 with fuel leaks around the filter bowl. So I removed it, cleaned it up, and replaced all the lines. I also cleaned the small screen inside the assembly attached to the bowl , it was very dirty. Ive got it back together and it wont start. I checked all the fuses and #6 is blown. whats this fuse for? And how do I get air out of the lines? Thanks for any help.

Welcome!

Underhood use #6 would be for the trailer right stop/turn (I think). Make sure you check all the others too very carefully. Make sure that you plugged the IPR back in since the wiring is part of the fuel bowl harness and gets left unplugged a lot. Air in the lines shouldn't be a problem (I've never had an issue with that in all the times I've had the fuel bowl off/disassembled ... which is at least six or seven times now). Cheers!

Pat is right...the #6 fuse is for Trailer Right Stop/Turn Lamps...that shouldn't have cause any starting issues. Recheck all the wiring around the fuel filter canister. Make sure everything is still plugged in nice and tight.
