We have a Bonneville Streamliner that has gone over 300MPH with a gas motor. We would like to find someone with high performance diesel experence that is interested in a project to be the first diesel over 300MPH. The fastest that I know of now is 268MPH. No dreamers please. If you can make the power we can get it done. Doug

The class for diesel streamliner is set up by cubic inch. The 7.3 power stroke seems to us to be a good choice. Would like about 800HP to really knock the record up there. Any fuel is legal and as much boost as you want. I see these guys saying how much HP they are getting, so I thought maybe someone would like to put their motor in our car and prove they have the fastest diesel in the world. Doug

Have you considered a 5.9 cummins?? The displacement isnt really much of a disadvatage.

I think durability is going to be a concern, as well as intake temps. Banks used some marine intercoolers on his Cummins, and there are some on this site that use a similar a/w cooling methods. BDP has some HP parts if you are serious.

That is exactly what he is saying (that's how I read it), almost sounds like a troll but who knows. If he was looking for top speed, I would think he would want a motor that turns higher RPM's than our 7.3's (maybe a 6.0 or Dmax).

OK Here is the deal. We have a Bonneville Streamliner thats worth about 65K I will have to get a new liberty trans with the right gear ratio for another 7K. I have 70 or 80K worth of gas motors and parts now. I don't want to keep the diesel after the record is set. I just have heard all this talk about all the power the diesel guys are making. Talk is cheap! Who wants to be able to say that their diesel is the fastest diesel in the world? People can lie about what they get on the dyno. Take it out to the big white salt dyno and prove it. Banks bought a streamliner for 100K a couple years ago to go for the 300MPH record. It is just sitting in the back of his shop because they are so busy on other things. If you want to be the first 300MPH diesel you need to get started soon. Doug

Ok, here is the deal. Hit up the sponsors privately and in person (or at least over the telephone). Give them a real contact person's name, number, address, website, etc.

Or . . . go buy a PS block and start hitting up the sponsor(s) as above for parts. If you're on the up & up, then you should have no trouble getting most of these guys to ante up for such a run.

Of course, we would rather see a PSD modified in the truck to go over 300 and then let Banks just /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif at his Daytona project. And his streamliner.

I'm certain we would get all sorts of volunteers to take any/all the stuff off your hands since you don't want to keep it after the record's set.

Good luck! This is not the place to ask. You need to call Hypermax direct, or if your really serious, go there in person. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

What truck is it that Banks uses in his promotional stuff? The one he claims is "the fastest diesel truck in the world" or some such.

Is that this "Streamliner" your talking about? Sorry for the ignorance. I don't follow top speed stuff.

Thanks,

Tom

The truck with the Banks diesel is called the banks sidewinder. Driver is D. Alexander record is 213.583 set in 2002 in diesel truck class.

The fastest diesel powered vehicle is the Phoenix from Grants Pass Or. at 272.685 set in 2003 by Carl Heap in unlimited diesel truck class.

Our car is a Streamliner. Think of a 26 foot long female sex toy on four wheels that you lay down in and go very fast. Kind of like a rear engine dragster with narrow tires and a jet fighter body without the wings.

You can go to www.scta-bni.org to see the records and some pictures. Doug

If all you want is to go super fast using diesel, then you will need to go more then 400 miles per hour to break the record. An old Chevy/GMC with 3 jet engines running diesel has the record. And it is over 400 mph. So 300 mph won't even come close.

If it's the one I'm thinking about at the saltflats, it was a Custom Freightliner with 4 turbos feeding 2 superchargers, on 2 cummins engines. One B E A UTIFAL truck!
