Friend of mine had a gas truck a 2000 Drw 2wd V10 gas had 130K miles on it and the motor was still running strong but the transmission was getting soft and it was getting to need some front end work he traded while it was still running and looking good. In 130K the only thing done to the motor was one set of plugs, 2 fuel filters and one belt.
He traded/ordered a 2013 F350 DRW 2WD Lariat 6.2 V8 4.30 Gears. He tows A Hitch Hiker Premiere Fifth Wheel on a Full-time basis. He has towed for many years. So it can be done if you do not want the Diesel. Just a matter of preference imho.

Any idea how much weight he was towing
My friend is traveling right now. Usually he answers e-mails in the morning. I sent him a message asking how much his trailer weighs.
I will get back to you when he answers.

Friend has a 13 6.2L Super Cab so it's rated at 15600 and that's what his trailer is rated at but in real life it's the around 16000 loaded and ready for the road, last time he weighed the combined weight was 24340.

He added. The 6.2 it will take about 5K miles before it starts coming alive, and started pulling with our truck at 370 miles, we now have 10K on ours with 7K pulling the trailer.

Hope this helps.

What gear ratio do both of you have?
I do not have one yet. Looking into it. Looking for a dependable Truck for towing a Fifth Wheel. In a few years.
My friend said he has the 2X4 Dully with 4.30 gears. Also has two low gears.
He also claims most 6.7 owners he has traveled with get a mile or two better mileage but also pay. 40 to 70 cents more a Gallon.
Like he said wrote to me before. If you want to be king of the hill go with the 6.7L. If you want want a trouble free motor it may be worth a look.
Hope this helps,

Well, here is my 15,000 mile update. The 6.2 will be tradeded for another 6.7 today. The high altitudes of Colorado and towing with a N/A engine is terrible. Not to mention the 6 mpg and 5500 rpm all day long. Even running empty up the passes is sketchy at best, nothing like getting behind a tourist doing 35 in a 50 and the passing lane isn't long enough to get around them (unless you are in an ecoboost or a 6.7). Other than that I loved everything else about the 6.2. I have found motor craft fuel filters for 51.00 bucks for the set and I will change my own oil so that helps the maintenance costs. Not to mention I went on a trip to Denver with a buddy that had the 6.7......he averaged 20.8 mpg on the trip....I got 12.9.

It cost me me about 5000.00 to drive the gasser for a while, I learned a lot. There is no way to test drive and get all the "real world" scenarios packed in.

I hope this helps someone else in making their decision on the original topic.
Thank you for your Feedback. Looks like if your live in altitude you are towing and such, you better off with the 6.7L. Good information to know.
Appreciate you taking the time to come back to post your message.

I did buy a Gasser. A 2015 F-150 4X2 XLT Supercrew During Thanksgiving weekend.
Ford had sales of $9,000 off MSRP, which is what i got. I Was going to Look at a 2015 F-250 4X4 6.7L
but when i drove the truck it was too big for my parking space at my Townhouse. So went for the F-150
The Truck fits just fine, in my Parking space. Real nice drive so far no Issues.

Yes i would. I just bought a 2015 F150 XLT 4x2 Supercrew this last Novemeber.
5.0 V8 FFV Engine, Elec 6-Speed Auto W/Tow Mod Exterior-Guard metallic, Boxlink, Stowable Loading Ramps, Spray-In Bed Liner, Rear View Camara, Reverse Sencing System, Sync W/My Ford Touch, Remote Start, Extang Tonneau, and more goodies.
I have have had no issuses at all, runs great! I plan to up grade in a few years to a F-350 4X4 Super Duty for a Truck Camper. I am looking a 6.2L because it will be sitting sometimes
between camping trips. The 6.7L does not like to sit long periods of times.

First off nice truck. I am one that does like the new look.

Where did you see taht the 6.7 does not like to sit. I leave mine sit for weeks at a time during the winter. I have actually only put on 500 miles in 3.5 months. Truck is for pulling a trailer. Everything I have heard is no problem leaving them sit just keep the fuel tank full.

I've heard the comment on this forum down through the years I have been a member.
Also how driving in constant traffic is not good for the 6.7L. In Honolulu there is a lot of congested bumper-to-bumper traffic driving here. It cannot be avoided sometimes.
It would not be the first time I have been wrong in these subjects. I could be wrong about the 6.7L, as I have never owned one yet. But every owned Ford gas truck or Car. I have never had Engine or Transmission problems.
So I will play it by ear and if I come across a 6.7L down the line I might give it a try, and test drive it!
Have a good day,
Scott

A $500K house sells five years later for more than a $100K house sells for five years later.

A diesel truck sells for more than a gasser five years later. And the used diesel sells faster. I've seen used gasser Super Duty trucks languish for a long time until the price is reduced substantially before they will sell. Gas engines wear out much sooner than a diesel engine and buyers know that.

However, I would buy a gasser if they had a decent engine - like the rumored 5.0 EcoBeast - and I'd forgo the diesel regen/def issues and the extra weight associated with the diesel engine and the diesel exhaust.
I have the 2015 F-150 XLT 5.0 V8 FFL with the Trailer package. When i move back to the mainland at retirement. I will get the Diesel F350 So i can add a camper for camping. But with the rumored 5.0 EcoBeast coming. I too may look into it.

You guys really crack me up trying to justify how a Diesel is cheaper. I posted that almost three years ago! Only way it is better is if you keep it to 150K miles or more. Then you get a better return than the gas.
I sold my 2011 6.2 with 166K miles for $18.2 and the dealer sold it in one week for $26K. I bought it for $49K and had no issues. I drive a 2016 6.2 now and love it.
Bottom line, if you need a diesel for towing, get it. If you don't, then get the gas. So many of you try to justify your EGO in getting a diesel saying its a better deal. I'd rather you just say I spent more money because I work hard and wanted a diesel and I enjoy driving it. Stop trying to justify to others that it makes financial sense if you don't tow a lot or plan to keep it many years.
That s a good point Sloo.

My next truck will be the 6.2L Gas. My F150 is great in the traffic of Honolulu. Looking to move up to the F350 SRW in few years.
Out here in the traffic, the 6.7L just will not perform as it should. The diesel has to work hard to get the best out of it.
