Would you buy the gasser again?

I really have no need for a diesel but I do really like the Super Duty trucks. So as the title states if something happened to your truck today would you buy another 6.2 liter powered Super Duty.

Thanks

Aren't the Lariat and KR F150s just as expensive as the gasser SDs? I briefly checked out the F150s and for the same money, I'd rather have more truck.
From what I have priced out on the Ford website, you are correct there is not a lot of difference in price. Like you I would rather have more truck.

Friend has a 13 6.2L Super Cab so it's rated at 15600 and that's what his trailer is rated at but in real life it's the around 16000 loaded and ready for the road, last time he weighed the combined weight was 24340.

He added. The 6.2 it will take about 5K miles before it starts coming alive, and started pulling with our truck at 370 miles, we now have 10K on ours with 7K pulling the trailer.

Hope this helps.

What gear ratio do both of you have?
What gear ratio do both of you have?
I do not have one yet. Looking into it. Looking for a dependable Truck for towing a Fifth Wheel. In a few years.
My friend said he has the 2X4 Dully with 4.30 gears. Also has two low gears.
He also claims most 6.7 owners he has traveled with get a mile or two better mileage but also pay. 40 to 70 cents more a Gallon.
Like he said wrote to me before. If you want to be king of the hill go with the 6.7L. If you want want a trouble free motor it may be worth a look.
Hope this helps,
Scott
Here what Im looking at

That's a no nonsense rig right there. Make sure you want it because nobody else buys those!!
I'm a no non sense guy, I want a truck to work. I like the vinyl seats because there easy to clean, and manual 4x4 is a must. I hate the wheels but that's easily fixable and as well a a sliding rear window. Those are the only two things that I don't like. If I order one I'd get the heavy front service suspension and the up fitter switches.

I understand the front coil springs are much cheaper and easier to swap out than the old front leafs. So if it doesn't have the plow package or heavy service suspension I wouldn't consider it a deal killer.
Wheels are all over the place - this and other forums and ebay.
I'm looking for a gasser myself but something nicer than my XLT. They're hard to find.
Ya, I'm not worried about the front springs, and your right the wheels are easy to find
IMHO it is a personal preference. Nothing pulls like a diesel having said that nothing is more expensive as a diesel to fix. But as long as you keep up with the maintenance they are very reliable and generally better on fuel. I personally switched from gas and never looked back and I'm looking at buying one of the new f350s with the 6.7 but I have mixed emotions with what I hear about kinks being worked out. Both of my current trucks are 7.3s and are great trucks but both have had their fare share of motor work over the years however both run strong and have mileage on them. With the outrageous cost of trucks these days it's hard to justify buying new and having it die 5 years later. I kept going through gas motors between heavy hauling and towing.
Just left my fleet dealer, I drove a regular cab 6.2. I was impressed. It has a lot of power. I think that's what I'm going to order(6.2). Now I need to sit down and decide the axle ratio.
I picked up a used 11 f250 ccsb with the 6.2 and 3.73's last November. I have since had it 5 star tuned on 87 performance, which really woke the truck up. I had a e99 7.3 ccdrw before that, with a few mods.... I knew that I would miss the torque, and I still do. the dually would lock into o/d and just go, boosting all the way! hauling heavy with the gasser, 16k combined trailer and hay, the tranny dropped down to 3rd quite a few times on the interstate at 70 mph, getting 5-6 mpg. in tow/haul mode, it wont even go into 6th gear. I averaged 14.1 mpg on my trip Idaho stick hunting for elk, that was with the cruise set at 78 mph. truck was just loaded with hunting/camping gear. I now have a steel 30ft gn with lq trailer and hauling just 2 horses in it is slow.... lots of 5k revs to get it going.
my 2 cents, I like the truck with light to no loads. I hate it when I need to haul anything heavy. it will do the job, but I still haven't gotten used to all the tranny shifting and high revving needed to maintain the power...
my boys are getting old enough to ride, so I will be getting more horses and needing to haul more hay. we will also be hauling the horses around on weekends more, so I will probably be getting back into a diesel. I will still hate the initial cost and the cost of the fill ups...

I just traded my 15 6.7 for a 6.2. I spend to much time idling and the new diesels maintenance is crazy. I ran the 6.7 for 18000 miles....8000 of that SCT tuned and deleted with pip tunes. Really made a difference on how it ran, but I could not get over the 100 dollar fuel filters and 120 dollar oil changes. I only pull 14,000 a couple times a year so I really didn't need the diesel. I also had a 13 Eco boost.....let me say this I almost decided to give up camping to I could keep the F150 but the kids were not having it. If they would just put 3.5 ecoboost motor in a super duty.........i am sure they will sooner or later and when they do I will get one.

I have had every Diesel engine put in a pickup....including an LMM deleted (best one in my opinion)a 6.7 ram deleted plus numerous pre dpf trucks. The epa has killed these current diesel trucks and you will be amazed at how well they run once they spare set free, but the fuel quality any more is so terrible and the fuel systems are so picky, it's only a matter of time before you get a 20,000 dollar repair bill.

I am in the same boat. I tried to negotiate to a lighter travel trailer with the family so I could go to a new F-150 EcoBoost. I got voted off the island. I tow a 10k trailer 12X a year, and daily drive a 2013 6.7L for about 30,000 miles a year. Not smart. I'm considering a 6.2L gasser, but even that as a daily driver would kill me with fuel bills at 14mpg. I cant find two truck payments equitable, so one it is. Even a daily driving car is not cost-effective. I wish we had better engine options in the Superduty. I have had several of every Powerstroke made, and never had an issue with one. All had high miles each year as I drove 65k plus each year. I love them, but its not about high mileage any more with the costs and fuel economy. My tweaked 7.3L's got much better mpg's than this 6.7L, and I really don't need to be the first one to the next light.
Yea, how many $20,000 engine explosions on the diesel before people decide it's just not worth it anymore?
I can pick up a whipped supercharger for 7500.00 and put out 600 hp. More power and still cheaper than the Diesel engine option with no regens.
I had a 2008 Tundra with the 5.7. Great truck, fast, comfortable and could tow 10K LBS. I towed a 9,800 LB trailer from California to Maryland with no problems. Averaged 7MPG. When not towing I would get 14-16MPG, and I do not have a lead foot. I sold it becasue the electronics where getting funky on it (random codes would appear and then be gone), especially the Air Injection Pumps kept failing, tired of going to the dealer.
I now own a 2000 F250SD 7.3 CC and love it! I get about 20-22 on the highway/18 City. Still getting used to it but love the diesel it feels a lot more solid then the Tundra. Going to stick with this 7.3

How would you describe the changes with the 5star tune?
There's lots of power in these engines but the electronic chastity belt gets in the way.
Does the tune do a good job of improving throttle response? That's my main motivation for a tune.
I'm approaching 6k miles on it now (bought Nov 1) and am ready to dial it in now that I've got a feel for the truck.

How about shifting?
I'm likely looking at tow tunes as I pull a 7K# construction trailer regularly, plus always humping something in the bed/lumber rack.

I came from a LBZ duramax.
Miss the torque but I think a tuned 6.2 will be 90% of the truck day to day.
Once I see how the tune feels I may also regear to 4.30's but this thing pulls fine as is for my needs.

With out a doubt, I'm about to buy 3rd 6.2 with 4.30 gears.
I don't plan on replacing my 7.3L, but if an accident forced me to, I'd get a 3 valve 6.8L V10. I drive a chassis cab, so that engine is still available. But I wouldn't be afraid to buy a 6.8L V10 used either. That thing turned out to be about the best gasoline fed motor for a truck that Ford has ever produced.
