I think I'm going to order a Wicked Wheel for my 02' F350 but before I do, I'd like to ask some questions.

Is it something that I'll be able to install myself? If so where can I get some detailed instructions?

Does it matter which brand I order? I've seen them from several different companies? The cheapest one I found was $59 from Xtreme Diesel.

One more question, should I go ahead and order a Banks Bighead wastegate as well? I'm running a Superchips tuner in 110, mod intake, and a 4" exhaust is on its way. Thanks any and all suggestions are welcome.

Hi, I installed a Banks Stinger Plus kit on my 2002 F350 CC Longbed.
I would like to mention a couple things: Get a thick blanket to lay on top of the engine. Get a couple cans of PB Blaster penetrating oil(works well). Setup a clean work area to work the on the turbo. When you remove the turbo pedestal, don't lose the two "o" rings beneath the pedestal. Break the turbo apart using the recommended 8mm 12 POINT socket. you may clamp the exhaust wheel using a larger size vise grips on the wheels end and use your body as leverage. Loosen the intake wheel with the wrench that fits best and screw the new wheel by hand and/or 100 inch lbs.

Two additional notes. 1. I wish I had the torque specs on re-assembly...I didn't like just making things tight.
2. Remove the oil dipstick as I broke mine and it cost me $28.00 at Ford.

I enjoyed doing this. maybe while your there you can re-route the crankcase breather hose. Thanks, JOHN

Mine goes in tomorrow. I am dreading the instal even though I love to work on my Jeep and truck. This just seems a little complex. Maybe I am making more of it than it is. I just never messed with the turbo before. I did get new o rings though.

twistedtj,

I installed a wicked wheel a few weeks ago using the the dieselsite.com instructions that racing4funn has a link to above. They are clear and straightforward. I too was a little apprehensive about it but it went pretty smooth. It's not has difficult as it sounds.

OK. So I just got done, about 3.5 hours from start to finish. All in all not too bad, but it was hot outside and that back clamp just didn’t want to come off!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Also those 4 8mm bolts they tell you to remove just weren’t coming off for me, so I improvised. I removed the EBPV and just used a pair of vise grips to access the part you were supposed to put in the vise and unscrewed the wheel. Its not on real tight so you really don’t NEED the vise. There is NO need to take those 4 bolts that hold the EBPV adapter in. Save yourself the hassle!! See my pics for what I am talking about.
Also since I had the turbo out I gutted the EBPV, that was easy.

I noticed the turbo spooled up quicker which made the boost get up there quick too. Just not as much whistle as I was hoping for. I also noticed the SHHHHHH noise is gone.

PS. My best tools were PB Blaster penetrating oil and an old comforter that I put across the engine and had to physically lay across at times.

twistedtj,

I forgot to mention about the band clamps /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif. I sprayed them with PB Blaster the night before and they weren't too bad to get off. I installed my MBRP cool duals at the same time. I have more turbo whistle than stock, but you really have to listen for it. I'm glad it all worked out OK for you.
