I just installed a ported turbo housing and I had a X wheel from XDP and loved it. I had some damage to the X wheel, one of the fins was cracked and all of the fins were rolled in at the tips. So I had a WW and just put that in I love the sound but have given up about 5 lbs of boost. I used to get 25 no problem now I get 20 at Wot. What do you guys get with that combo and what should I look for as a possible problem. what are the stock wheels able to make boost wise, I have read on here about having a ported housing and a WW. As of right now I would say it ran better with the X wheel and stock housing I am going to get another X wheel and see how much I like it then.

I think I lost about 3-4 psi of boost when I went from stock '02 to a WW. I had surge and didn't have the cash for the ATS housing so I did the WW. Wasn't too happy but without that ATS housing I can't change anything.

I have found out that the wheel that I had was from XDP they call it a X wheel in a stock housing. I had a surge problem so I got a ported turbo housing and put in the WW, now there is no surge but I have lost about 6 lbs of boost. I read that all these wheels are borg warner so there is no difference in them. I have the part # off the back of the wheel that gave me 25 lbs of boost and it does not match the # that is listed for the wheel I am scratching my head. When I go back over to the shop I will get the # off of it and post it so i can find out what I had in my truck. I just want my boost back. I am going to call XDP today and ask them what was the part # of the wheel that they sent me. How much boost can a stock wheel make in the ported housing. I have also noticed how much longer it takes to spool up I am not very happy about that either.

I have both WW and ATS housing. After I resealed all the IC boots I could make it hit 32 psi, I think about 28 is absolutely the max for our turbos map. Anymore and the stock turbo goes out of map and becomes inneficient.

OP, I would pull all your IC pipes and boots. Clean them with carb or brake cleaner till they are perfectly clean, then rinse with water and let them dry. Use a cheap hair spray (final net works well) to help the boots reseal when reinstalling, it really makes them stick to the pipes, and then tighten the hell out of the clamps. Youll be suprised at how easily your turbo will now make boost. You can also do something like this Dieselsite Turbo Boost Leak Detector - 3"

Kanman did you happen to report your ported housing before you put it on. I will check on that today It will not take that long to take off and clean the boots and pipes thank you for the help Kanman.

Kanman I took all the plumbing off cleaned it all up let it dry and put it all back. I did notice a little faster spool up but no real gain in boost. I did turn the chip up to 100hp and got about 22 lbs of boost. but with the wheel that was on the truck I got 25 lbs every time I pushed it to the floor. I did talk to XDP today and like I thought they try to make you think that you have no idea what you are talking about. the fact of the matter is that I have three different wheels here the stock the WW and what is supposed to be a X wheel. I am sending it to XDP because I dont know what i am looking at and they are going to tell me what it really is. I am going over to the shop in the morning and I will pull the numbers off the back of it.

I'm trying to figure out why you need both a ported housing AND a WW at the same time? Either one will just about eliminate surge by itself. Why do both? Especially with all the reports of lost boost with the WW. Run the ported housing with the stock newer wheel and eliminate surge and keep your boost. Unless you can't afford it like I couldn't so I went with just the WW.

I guess if you don't mind the lost boost and subsequent power loss just to get the extra whine when you combine the two?

BTBBT I started out stock then bought an X wheel, that I later found out that they are all the borg warner wheels no matter what the name on it is. but I still had turbo surge while running my chip so I bought a ported housing. When i removed the stock turbo housing I saw that the X wheel was damaged. My brother in law had the WW from his stock turbo so we put that in and I lost boost I could care less about the noise. When we put the two side by side they were not even close to being the same. I called XDP where I got the X wheel from and asked them what wheel they sent me and they treated me like I was the dumbest person on the planet. So i shipped the wheel back to them because I want another one just like it. Now if all those are the same thing why was this one different and what did it come off of. The part # on the back of the X wheel came back to ford but there was no other information. I am not satisfied with the WW It takes to long to spool up. And for what it is worth my brother n law is a bus mechanic he works on these all day every day, and yes they are International's.

I think the generally accepted practice is to run a stock wheel with a ported housing. The only reason I have removed my WW yet is pure laziness lol.

To the best of my knowledge all WW's are is a wheel from an older BOS truck. Which help on the 99-01 trucks. I believe the 02 and 03 have a more efficient wheel... Could that XDP wheel just be a stock 02 or 03 wheel?
