will you be getting a 7.3 or 6.0?... i pull an 11K#+ toy hauler every other weekend with my X and have no complaints...i live in the Vegas valley and every way out of here is a 6% grade or better...i pulled the chip out of mine a long time ago as i didn't feel it really did anything for me with a heavy tag behind me..my truck just didn't need it..70 mph+ up the hills with the trailer is cool with me... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

i looked in the diesel supplemental for the 2002 X
says max trailer weight 4X2 10,500 4x4 11,000
compared to f250 which says without/5er 12,500
if your serious about it go drive one and see how you like it
the X is a cool ride........
good luck to ya. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

I assure you with that trailer you will be over the GVW rating of an X once you add in the hitch weight. Of course you may already be over it also on your F250. But, that another story and its up to you decide on the importance of it. I am sure it can pull it though. But, as others may say you probably will need to do some suspension work.

Mine did great towing my 7,000 lbs. of boat and trailer for the last two years...but if I were towing heavy especially going over 10,000 lbs. I think I would look into a F250 or F350. Just my opinion. In fact I am planning on upgrading boats in the next couple of seasons and depending on whether I keep it at the lake on a lift may determine the fate of my X. I do love my X and may even keep it if I end up needing a beefier tow vehicle.

Rickson sells 19.5 inch wheels which would eliminate the need for duals. Many will flame you for wanting to pull more trailer than the X is rated for, but you can upgrade the X with different springs, airbags, tires, wheels, WD Hitch and pull the whole setup safely. My Biggest concern would be Brakes. Just remember, Common sense is uncommon.

trailer has brakes on all three axles and it stops great behind my 250.if i am going to spend that much money to upgrade an x to pull i would rather just by a 350 and be done with it.thanks

Why? They're different animals. If you need an X to haul people, it's a great idea to ugrade it to pull. Even a Crew Cap truck can only haul 5-6 people, cramped at that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I could see buying a pickup if you need to use the bed on a regular basis or you intend to pull a fifth wheel. However from my viewpoint here in Texas it looks like most buy the pickup as a status symbol. There content to drive around with the cramped interior room for the once a year time they need the bed. For me it's easier to just use a utility trailer for the few times I need to haul tall items.

I pull a 10-11K 35' Arctic Fox 32D with our X and it tows nicely. You might be surprised to note that the X has axles that are rated at 9000lbs by the manufacturer, (not Ford) I installed 5000lb capacity air bags on the rear that give me a nice level ride in all load conditions. The Hensley hitch I use to pull the rig handles better than 5th wheel rigs I've driven. I also have the Brake Smart controller. The rig feels safe everyplace I've ever taken it.

we pull a 9000lb 20ft cargo trailer every weekend with my X and after a few upgrades it kicks arse. just a little trailer swaying is all I have to deal with.
but if it was not for needing room for 7 people I would for sure go with a f350. something that heavy and long the extra wheels make's it a lot more stable. ( in my opinion )
