I just bought an 04' f-350 and have discovered a bad exhaust leak from what I can tell it is the Y pipe on the left side. :icon_mad:It is hissing and I am getting exhaust smell in the cab. I can feel the exhaust coming from that area. How difficult of a job is it to replace it?? I looks like a PITA. I have a shop and plenty of tools. I may have to take it to the dealer but would like to avoid it.NO WARRANTY! Can anyone tell me how much it would cost if I did take it to the dealer?

Thanks in advance.

I got an estimate for about $500 from my dealer, before I convinced them that it was covered under warranty. I bought a new Y pipe from a Ford wholesale parts dealer here in town for $250, but took it back when I was able to confirm I could get it done under warranty. I think they were going to charge 6 hrs labor. If you choose to do it yourself, have you ever checked out Helm's handy dandy online Ford factory-authorized, dealer service guides? Just a thought... I used their 30-day subscription to the service for $19.95 just recently to do some work on the rear axle,a Dana 80, on my parents F53 motorhome chassis. It was very useful because I like to do everything by the book, and I've never handled quite a job like that before.

I wasn't real excited about yanking the turbo on mine, just because I've heard about how much fun they can be to get back on correctly without them leaking oil afterward and such.

If you have any mechanical skills at all, and it sounds like you do, you won't have any problem. The easiest thing might be to completely unhook the turbo and just set it forward a little without taking out of the engine compartment. There is a flange on the passenger side top where the two uppipes bolt together which makes getting them in and out a snap.

Good luck.
