1- on this trannys is there an upgrade kit available or just rebuild kit for standard specs., ? if not, do you guys know a real good tranny shop around my area. or better to buy one of those from ebay the seem cheap some of them.

2- when i release the clutch pedal i can hear a noise that seems to be coming from the clutch release or lever(?) or some of its parts. not the clutch itself (i know ceramic clutch can and will make some noise but is not this case). is not terrible but better to know. also, can i open the container or reservoir for the clutch fluid on the engine compartment? i wonder cause i dont want air to get on it if that is a problem, i never open one of those and not that my tranny have any problem but i'd like to learn some more about zf5 tranns before anything comes up.

Thank you, Exekiel.

The clutch linkage for these truck is of questionable design, there are many flaws and trouble points.
Get on your back, under the steering column and inspect the linkage from the clutch pedal, the rotating shaft, the clutch actuator lever.
Look for a worn egged shaped hole in the pushrod of the clutch master cylinder.

The clutch resevoir is OK to open.
The Ford manual has written that a worn clutch will cause the level to rise. My common sense does not make this work, but just to warn you that the fluid level may be high.

Good Luck

Fluid level in a hydraulic clutch work opposite of a brake system. As the clutch disc wears the fluid rises...the fingers on the clutch springs move outward since you are going through lever arms. It is confusing but backward from hydraulic brakes. Think of this...with a clutch cable it grabs higher (because it pulls) and with hydraulics it grabs lower (because it pushes) as the disc wears. Wierd stuff. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif
