I have a 04 4 door cab, short bed. 29 gal tank. I range anywhere from 14 mpg to 18mpg. When my light comes on and it looks like its reading "E" I will usually get about 24-25 gal added. So I am guessing that I have a good 5 gal left when the light comes on.

 

You should have the 39 gal tank, as far as how far you can go that depends on alot of things, like gears, auto or standard tranny etc. I can go atleast 550 miles on a tank and I have 3:73 gears and the 5R100 tranny. Hope this helps /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

 

I went 440 miles on my last tank (reset the trip odometer every fillup) and added 28 gallons. I'm guessing our trucks hold about 30-31 gallons.

 

I have put 605 miles on a tank and put 33 gallons back in on a 38 gallon tank. I suspect one could get 700 miles on a tank with good MPG but I have also heard never let a diesel run out of fuel so I dont push it.

 

The shortbeds have a 29g tank & the long boxes are 38. Many have reported putting in 31-32 (fill to the neck) in a SB. My LB has had a fill of 39 once. I had one tank go 729 miles, and a couple up to 697. I start looking for fuel at about 600 (unloaded).

At my worst towing run (13m/g), I should have a range of about 500mi to fumes. That run was 600 mi r/t @ 70-75 towing 6.5k#.

WHOOO HOOO! I just replaced my air filter & changed the oil - last fill computed 22.73m/g! Best ever. That was 410mi @ 70m/h & 18.06g. God I love a 6spd.

WHAT??? There's no way you are getting that kind of milage, my best with the Banks is 15.64 without Banks was 13 something. Grant it I have 35's but that is not that much of a difference. Are you hand calculating or going off the overhead? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

 

Another reason why 6L's called "snowflakes" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif If OMC is solid filling (no foam) up into fill neck, then I'm impressed. Only way I can get accurate mpg is to do that way.

ARRRGHH! Ya caught me before I could get my Mea culpa out. I forgot to add in the 5g of B-100 "fuel additive" into the calc. I have seen guys get 22+, but it looks like I'm not one of them. My best still remains 19.7 . This last one was 18.3, more into my normal range. I caught it last night looking at the graph for fuel prices, and wondered why this last fill spiked at over $3/g. Oh well.

I ran my truck down to the red empty mark, and beyond, this weekend (i didn't mean to) going over the Grapevine to L.A. pulling my RV. Went about another 15 miles after the empty light came on and the stupid overhead computer said that I had zero miles to empty. I finally made it to a truck stop and filled the tank with 34 gallons of fuel. If the tank really holds 38 gallons of fuel, I still had 4 gallons of fuel left. I was only getting about 10 M/G pulling my 10,000 lb. RV over a 4,000 ft mountian with a 6% grade going 70 MPH. Guess that I should go slower next time, but it sure was fun passing everyone up pulling my RV going up the mountain. These PSD are real pullers.

 

Don't go by the overhead console. You will be walking. These trucks hold 38 gallons. Read your OWNERS MANUAL.

I can go an easy 50 miles when the light comes on. I usually get around 600 on a tank before I fill up (long bed). I have a few tanks in the 620 mile range and those were around 32-33 gallons. The most I have ever put in was just over 37 gallons. My best mileage so far is 20.2 mpg but I hope to better that this summer as Im starting to get broken in with over 20k on the clock. Im gonna shoot for a 650 mile tank and a 700 mile tank this year if I ever get to do any long traveling. problem is whenever I do I'm pulling my bass boat along with me.

 

I got 18.5 mpg on my first tankful, and 17 on the next. I purosely drove the truck hard (no load) to see what the impact would be. I put a set of 35's on it, the mpg dropped to 15.5. Hopefully it will get better as I approach the magic 10K mark. I also plan on re-gearing to a 4.10. I can't understand why Ford won't allow you to order a srw F-350 with that gear, when you can get it on the dually's.

I have a short bed and have harpooned my tank. I get right around 17 to 17.5 MPG (yes hand calculated and filled to the brim). When my low fuel light comes on, I can go about 60 miles before I really start to sweat. I have put over 34 gallons in mine multiple times /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif. I alway run mine low to keep acurate fuel additve mixtures.

If you were that low and only put 34 gal. in I would guess that you filled it until the pump clicked off. I know I can put 4+ gal. in after the pump clicks off and I fill it right up to the gas (I mean diesel) cap. Well the 4.10 won't help mpg any. Did you recal the odo after putting the tires on?
