I'm not sure, the owners manual :read: indicates it's in the fuel tank and doesn't need to be changed, but when I look it up it shows a typical inline canister filter. Somebody out there in the forum nust know. :eek3:

It's in the tank, one of those "lifetime" filters. I'm not a fan of the concept but if you wanna change it, you'll have to drop the tank.

Are you questioning the quality of gas based on the on-going shenanigans with the quality of diesel?

And yes, I think that the quality of the fuel is the lowest I have ever seen.

most if not all Fords since 2010 have not had fuel filters "inline". that for gas motors only.... all Diesels still have them.

 

Ford isn't the only one to stop using a serviceable in-line fuel filter for gasoline vehicles.

The main fuel filter is the filter on fuel pickup. It has a material that rejects water and of course, all things except some pretty fine stuff. The filter after the pump stops motor particles and everything else. The brush and commutator wear particles are bad news for the injectors and have to be contained. The amount of stuff getting into the non-serviceable filter is reduced so it makes it a filter that lasts the life of the pump. On cars I have experience with that have the lifetime system, filters are not being an issue. If you suspect crappy fuel you need to drop tank and clean it whether it has a serviceable filter or not. If the Ford pickup filter is as good as the others then the truck will quit running before it ingests water if you get a few gallons of water.

 

Yeah...in tank filter. IMHO...I think it is a good idea...and just one less thing to change. First car that I owned that had the same idea...was back in 2003. Never an issue...and traded in 2010 with 130000...still run like a top.
