My truck was in an accident that has caused frame damage in the front end. The shop asked me if it had ever been in another accident because there was a spliced in section on the frame just aft of the sway bar mount. My question is how do I get my insureance company to total it and why whould Ford splice together the frame. Maybe it was just for the 02 cc?

I assume you have owned it since new? How many miles when you bought it? Could the dealer have wrecked it and repaired it, not disclosing the damage? (Can you say LAWSUIT?)(I know a guy that had a Malibu, he had owned since new. Had a very minor fender bender after a couple years. Took it to the body shop, and his friend asked, "when did you wreck it before?" Um NEVER he said, found out the dealer had crunched it, he got about 2K back on it. ) Sorry to Digress, Anyway Ford would not "Splice" anything in a frame while building it. They would just scrap the frame out if something was discovered while building the truck, and start another one. (I have seen 1/2 built GM vans scrapped because they got damaged while building, or some manufacturing defect was discovered too late, (missed spot welds, ect...)
If what your body shop sees is possibly the normal design, and they don't know that, then do they know what THEY Are doing?

Yes I have had the truck since it was new. I climed under a friends 02cc truck this morning and it has the same frame splice. I guess it must be a Ford thing. Now I just have to figure out how to get the insurece company to total it because I don't think it will ever be the same.

Why are you writing off your truck so soon? I know some vehicles aren't the same after an accident, but if you find a credible repair shop they should do a good job. In any case, with my luck with insurance claims; you never get enough to replace the vehicle with the same or better vehicle like you had. Wish you the best.
