does anyone know what causes my harsh 2 to 3 shift and the converter to lock up at about the same time under normal to medium acceleration?can it be improved everyone says i will need a new tranny after i installed my stage 1s and i understand that but for now i would like to make this one shift properly or is that just the way it is ? the tranny is stock besides the factory tech accumulator valve body but even before i installed that it never shifted properly. two weeks ago i installed stage 1 injectors along with a intake and a 6 position chip when i put it in the extreme setting it shifts great but if i drive around in that setting i will definitely need a new tranny. when i replace the tranny can anyone give me some input on bts vs factory tech or maybe suncoast? thanks again

i was thinking that to but even before the upgrades it shifted bad but only going into third at about 2300 to 2500 rpms. do you know what the stock line pressure should be ? thanks

Are you talking about when you accelerate just right and overlap the 2-3 shift with the lockup? If that is the case I think that is kind of a nature of the beast. I have kind of learned to drive and avoid that with the throttle. You can also move those shift lockup points around a little with tuning to avoid that with you driving style.

you need to get in contact with RICHTER69, pm him, and he will tell you what you need to do as far as a rebuild.

thanks for the info,i guess its normal i will have to figure it out because if i have anything in my cup holders it ends up in the back seat not to mention it feels like its gonna break the driveshaft in two. i was hoping a upgraded tranny would take care of this o'well i just hope it dosnt happen this weekend i'm gonna be in western p.a. hunting in the middle of no where. thanks again

That is to harsh, a hard shift is differant than what your describing. I have mine set to shift hard, and it's a bump but no flying drinks, coins etc. I second the recommendation to PM RICHTER69

Just like vengence said, you are overlapping increased line pressures from your chip burns and the ftvb mechanically is set up for stock line pressures but has crisp fast shifts built into the valving. Same thing happened to me when I bought the monsterbox. Give some thought to having Tony Wildman reburn your chip with stock line pressures, tweek your shift points and t/c lockup. Talk to Tony about how you use your truck and he'll get you happy with your shifting. What code is your pcm?

My 2-3 shift felt like it was going to snap the driveshaft after I installed the Sonnax valve and springs. I ended up removing the aftermarket 2-3 spring and reinstalling the stock 2-3 spring. That helped a bit. If you still have your stock valve body, I'd recommend taking the stock 2-3 spring out of it and trying it in your new valve body.

As far as the 2-3 shift then lock-up right away under medium acceleration, I wish I could get that mess reprogrammed too.

I have had my ftv for over six months and have learned to live with the harsh 2-3 gear shifts, but hate them and it. I was having no problems with my trans, but read the plug and play hipe and decided I needed it to prolong the life of the trans. We are all looking for things to extend or inhance the trucks abilities.
My first ftv produced harsh shifts all around and I was sent another. My second ftv was the wrong one and had a special mod in it and produced hard shifts and a reverse that you had to wait about 8 seconds for. The third one produces harsh 2-3 shifts that almost seem to start, let go and then hold, it is shocking.
After having to pay 3 core return fees I decided to just live with the 2-3 harsh shifts and let up on the accelerator. I have read here that there is a fix for this and it maybe the springs from a transgo kit. I have not tried this yet, but will when I finally get tired of the shifts. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/depressed.gif

my pcm code is tde1, before i did the injectors and the chip i took my scmt 1705 tow safe program out and had everything back to stock all i had was the ftvb in and 2 to 3 was still hard so i think thats where the problem is. my 6 postion chip has a stock position on it so i assume that would keep the stock line pressure and it still shifts hard in that position. the only time it shifted half way decent was when i left last friday for PA i had a load of fire wood, coolers, and all my gear it shifted good and pulled the mountains great and my milage was real good like 19 on the interstate and around 15 on the back roads but when i unloaded everything it was back to shifting hard i read a little about that bauman electronics package i wonder if it works or maybe factory tech can help me out with the accumulator valve body. thanks again

The transgo springs make a nice firm shift, but not harsh. I run a straight transgo kit in one truck. In the other i have transgo springs combined with a sonnex valve with 2 of the 4 shims. It will give you a kick in the butt feel if you hold the accelerator but doesn't chirp the tires. It's not too harsh for my style of driving, but might try taking out the extra shims at oil change just to see what it does. It is a harder shift when cold also. I didn't go with the FTV. It sounds like the same changes you make with a transgo kit or sonnex so i didn't buy into it. Advantage transgo in my op. They have steel valves available but only give one in the kit so you buy the others extra. Sonnex's are aluminum like the factory ones that wear. I would try the transgo springs as a possible fix in the FTVB or put a transgo kit in the factory Accum.
