Not sure the root cause - something that may help the symptom but not correct the cause is an oil cooler half kit from Bulletproof Diesel - it dropped my oil temps by 20+ degrees - the oil temp never got above coolant temp while pulling our 7k camper over Memorial Day weekend with outside temps in the 90's - decided to install it after pulling over Christmas in the 50's outside and oil temp was 10-15 higher than coolant.

I'm very impressed.

Pretty sure my oil cooler is plugged or starting to be - but for the price, I decided to do this before taking part of the cab off.

@Texas830 did you put an OEM oil cooler in it when you did your work? More important did you do a very thorough coolant flush before you did the work? It's not unusual for new coolers to clog if it wasn't flushed good before replacing.

Agreed, I put their half kit on my old 6.4 it's very high quality and it worked great. Not cheap though.

I didn't know 218* was high for TX heat.
According to your sig you have a 7.3, the 7.3 oil cooler isn't as efficient (and doesn't clog as easy) as the oil coolers in the 6.0 & 6.4. My 7.3 runs hotter oil temps than my current 6.0, it also has 4.10 gears so it tachs higher on the highway too, that doesn't help. The OP should have a delta less than 15* when running 1900 RPM for 15 minutes empty and level.

EOT of 218* is too hot ??

Have you looked at oil and coolant temps before engine is started after an overnight shut down? If oil temp sensor is bad (biased) it might show 10-12 degrees more than coolant temp. Then the readings will be what you see and the PCM will flag the temp spread too big code

My engine is always around 205-215 and it's never near hot as TX here.

Witch Tstat do you have?

Normally when the EOT and ECT are not in sync, there's an issue with the oil cooler
