My IDM is shot. I have a new one, but don't know how to replace it with the old one. I have located the old IDM. Do not want to damage anything and don't want to pay someone $200 to replace it for me.

Dual Lee, here is a write up From TS performance about a chip install. It will give you an idea of the procedure. Chip install.
On our obs trucks the best way to get the pcm out is to remove some of the screws that hold the plastic fender well in place in front of the pcm, take a long bar and fold the fender well forward to get the clearance needed to remove the pcm... If your serious about a chip, I highly recommend talking to Tony Wildman. Wildman chips. The actual chip you buy from anyone is all the same, where the difference comes in is the programming. Most Vendors have off the shelf, generic, programs. they are good, but it's sorta one size fits all. tony takes it much farther in customizing the programs to fit your wants and fit your truck as to modifications you have allready done or plan to do..

Hey Dual Lee!

I am thinking about putting a performance chip in it.

Unless you changed topics in the middle of your own post /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif, make sure you have your terminology correct as as PSD has both an IDM and computer (PCM)!
Once you remove the PCM through the engine side of the firewall, there are a few fasteners that hold the case together and closed. Once you remove them the case simply spearates from the main board and you have clear access to scrape the coating off the contacts on both sides.

God Bless,
