I live and work in Mexico so decided why not purchase here. I made the decision a few months back when I went into my local Ford dealer. One of the first things I noticed when looking at the truck is that it is built at the Kentucky Ford Truck Plant just like all those in the US. When I opened the fuel door I had a real surprise. No DEF tank or fluid to fool with! Since it is retrofitted for Mexico, it doesn't have all the US required emissions stuff attached, and I suspect will never do a regen! Since Mexico is still on high sulfur diesel fuel, it will run fine both north and south of the US border. I am really looking forward to see what kind of fuel economy this baby will turn out. I have a trip scheduled to the Midwest in August-September so that will give me a good idea. Presently have 123 miles on the clock.

MexiFord

Third, what other things are different on the truck? When in Mexico previously I've seen vehicles that were fairly current models that lacked air bags, etc. due to the different safety regulations.

Texas, everything seems to be the same including the air bags. Safety is one thing that Ford sets a high standard on even for foreign markets. I have noticed the tail pipe tip does not branch out and have all the holes in it like the US rigs. Also a US emissions thing I believe.

So you cant drive it in the United States?

JP, 1000's of Mexico plated vehicles cross the border into the US every day, and 1000's of US plated vehicles cross the border into Mexico every day. You just have to have your vehicle with required liability insurance. That's it.

Third,
Are you in Mexico for a long time? Like wear the truck out long?
I can't imagine you'd be able to get it registered in US.

Have you idea what HP and torque rating the MExican market 6.7 engine has?

I have no idea, but should be close to the same since it is made the same place your was.

I'm sure you can drive it in the US, but no way would you be able to register it here in the US.

If it could be registered in the US, there would be lots of buyers flocking to Mexico.

hmmm, could it be cheaper to by a lot in mexico and put a mailbox on it rather than buying a DPF delete and tuner?? :bandit:

I am sure it would. I know of several ways to make that work south of the border.

The reason I asked is that vehicles built one right after in factories all over the world are built with huge differences. If they decided Mexico is a market where 300 HP and 550 ft-lb torque is all anyone really expects and competitors' offerings have numbers like that then they reduce warranty exposure for broken stuff with a different software.

No thanks, I will take DEF and crap for that extra HP and torque.

Never thought of that. I figured a super duty was a superduty. Does it have egr? I would love to see comparison data on problems on our trucks compared to those sold in Mexico. I bet with a lower tune and no dpf the mileage is great!

Toolpig,

I have been told by someone that it does have an egr, but
I don't know exactly what to look for on the top of the engine. It doesn't look like it has a dpf, but need to compare the exhaust with a US rig. I just put the first 950 miles on her and arrived in El Paso, TX today. I was getting 19.5 mpg on the clock with varying speeds for the break-in. I'm hoping for 20-25 following that, but happy with anything over 17 which is what I got with the 2000 F-350 7.3 4X4 CC. Sold her at 226,000 miles last month.

Yes, but think of the tuning opportunities with a Mexican truck. :jester:

Mexico Has some bonuses

Mexico has some bonuses. NO EPA law suites
I want a Mexico company to sell me a tuner for my truck. The EPA has NO control of a foreign company. No bullying companies into releasing customer lists.

If you know a tunner company for Mexico Please post it.

Well, I now have 3700 miles on the clock. My average mpg around town and on the highway has been between 18-19, so I have been pleased so far. No issues to speak of yet.

Are you using Mexico HSD or USA ULSD when calculating mileage. That right there will make a BIG difference in mileage. If I were you I'd buy the HSD as much as possible. More power, better mileage, more lubrication ect.,ect. Gotta love the EPA to dream up all this stuff and we end up paying for it!!!!

#33 ·
Skevac, I am using both low and high sulfur diesel as I am presently in the US where there is no high sulfur fuel. I suppose using an additive in the US will give me better fuel economy. Hand calculated, I am getting between 18-19 combined town and hwy driving.

Post up some pictures of your truck. You must live way on down into Mexico.
Enjoy your new Ford.

I know this is an old thread but I am looking to purchase one of these new or close to new here.
Yes, I live in Mexico full time with my family and I think this truck is in my future.... I love diesels, I pushed a big red one around for a career and they get in your blood.
I am going to stop at a dealer in the next few days and see if they have included the exhaust stuff in the 2015's..... if so, I'll look a year or two back.
My understanding is that they are also dealer tuneable for free up to the 400HP.
I don't see anything in the specs about exhaust but I'll look further at the dealer... and, yes, you can drive it in the USA.

Yes, and wish I they could be titled in the USA. If they could, there would be a stampede south to purchase.

We need to do away with EPA!!! Or at least throttle them back some. If the rest of the world did emissions even similar to USA, we would have no reason to complain. Since the USA and maybe Canada are the only ones doing strict emissions as required by EPA, there will never be a huge dent made any any of the so called climate changes or global warming or greenhouse effects (of which I think most of these came about to make people like Al Gore richer).

Soulpatch, you can cross the border with it as a tourist. You just can't register it in the USA.

Larry you are right on target.
