Oil is pouring out the exhaust manifolds!

Need some idears here what could have happened. The truck was starting to run good, and now this. The only thing I did, today, was throw in some biodiesel mix and now the oil is leaking.
At idle nothing shows up. Kick it to high idle at 1200 rpm's and oil is leaking out the H2E outlet to the big turbo, and leaking out of the manifolds-to-up pipe connection. I'm not talking a little drip now and then. I'm talking 12" diameter puddle from idling at 1200 for 5 minutes. I took one manifold off and ALL the cylinders were soaked in oil. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If a turbo blows it's seals, how can you tell? Will it leak into the intake, exhaust, or both?
Exhaust looks normal, no blue I would expect from burning oil.
There's just a ton of oil coming out the cylinders that's not being burned. Idles good, runs good. I didn't drive it not knowing what's going on.
Not sure, or if it's even possible, the BioD wasn't combusting all the way and there's residual oil in there that needs out?

Looking for pointers here what to look for.
Thanks.

Still got manifold off? Start it with it off and see if it is coming from every cylinder. Also watch teh ex valve and see if you can see the oil coming from the cylinder or maby valve guides.

Cant be turbo cause its coming from motor, if it were the compressor the engine would burn it not pass it.

I can pull it back off in a few minutes, but what would cause oil from EVERY cylinder? If it was just 1 or 2, then not ALL the cylinders would be wet. FYI, I had the pass. side off. I could see oil drip from the joint on the driver's side, too, so I know that side was passing oil, too.

Tons of oil dripping out the H2E exh. outlet.
Possible that there's still BioD trapped in the piston bowls that won't heat up and burn out?
That's the only thing that changed today, and is common to ALL cylinders. I can't really tell if it's motor oil or Veggie oil. Veggie would turn black, too, with all the soot in the heads.

Also, I drained all the veggie out and dumped the #2 back in and ran it for at least 10 minutes. Still dumping oil.

Oil level going down? If there was enough heat in the cylinders it would burn anything that came in I would think and if you were sucking in oil it would run away.

Wander if the H2 blew teh piston ring and is leaking so bad that oil is running down to teh manifolds and puddling there?

Plugged CCV tube.

I had one do it once. was coming out the stacks when he brought it over. leaking out the manifolds, all the exhaust joints, even the DP.

some how the tube got pinched in the frame. cut it shorter and no problems

I fixed a couple machines like that. Funny when a customer calls and says they are leaking oil from everywhere.

could back pressure be pushing the oil back into the exhaust manifolds if it was a seal in the turbo /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

If the seals go bad it will suck oil into the exhaust.Hook it all back up and drive downhill in drive to about 70mph and then let it coast.Smoke will roll out the exhaust for a few seconds.

Oil level still looks OK. Wondering soemthing happened in the H2E, too. If that were the case, and something let go in the turbo, why would the cylinders be soaked? I know there's some oil running down the up pipe, but both up-pipes have leaks (always did) and drip oil from those joints so I know there's oil in those pipes, too. God, I hope it's no the H2E. It's a rebuilt unit from Goldfarb that literally has like 200 miles on it, and 2 pulls.

Didn't think of that. Maybe...

Nope. My ccv vents throught a tube out under the cab. Crankcase smoke was blowing in my face as I was looking for the oil leak.

What would be the purpose of this?

Still, in the end, I can't help but think it's related to the Bio. Unless it's a coincidence something blew at the same time.
Maybe I'll put my blast gate on and go for a drive and try to burn it out. I can use the blast gate to shut her down if she runs away on the oil. ???

Thanks for the tips, keep them coming.

Something is putting the flame out it seems. I would think your truck would be running away on you if it was oil. Take it down the road warm it up see if anything changes. Yes it will die if you cut the air off but it won't be pretty.

I'm pretty sure it was 400cc injectors spitting gobs of "oil" into the cylinders, combined with the 14:1 compression, and the motor not getting warmed up quick enough to burn it all.
I took it out, drove it and got up to temp a couple times, and no leak. I think it was just extra oil in the cylinders.
Pulling today, we'll see what happens.
Thanks all.

If this oil was a result of a injector change it is normal. It gets pushed into the exhaust when you bump the motor over to clear the cylinders. When I did injector rings the first time I had oil running out the end of the tail pipe. Scared me half to death, but it cleared up after 1/2 hour of running.

So how did the pull go? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

#17 ·
I'm sure now it was just too much veggie oil that didn't get burned trying to fire it up. All is well and runs good.
The pull? Hooked great and ran great. Twisted the rear drive shaft in half at 270. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Matt, you were there? Was I huffin any smoke? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I thought that Maroon Super Duty that made the pull off did great. He's got his sh*t together. Wish patrick would have done better. 'Course with FPP running things, tech was an absolute joke, but that's another thread altogether...

Yeah I was there I was in the stands though. Yes you were smoking pretty good I thought. It was off and on though, were you bouncing off the fuel or something? Yeah I agree that maroon truck made a great run.
