Power steering fluid leak

When I shut the truck off, power steering fluid blows out of the vent hole in the top of the cap. I just recently had the reservoir off to drill out a snapped bolt, so I'm pretty sure that had something to do with it. Is there supposed to be an O-ring on the high pressure fitting where it threads into the pump? There wasn't one when I removed the hose, but it wasn't leaking before. I didn't see it inside the port, either.

A black o ring should be on that fitting large one sits on the taper above the threads.

I used to have a leak at the gear box pitman arm shaft.

As I was getting my truck all back together just recently with a newly adapted Hydroboost system and the whole system was dry, so I go to my shelf and the only thing I have is the evil brand of tractor transmission and hydraulic oil.
So I poured it in and the stuff works great in this application, silent running and that leak is GONE! Have you ever heard a silent Ford power steering pump? I have, Mine! and before it was the usual whiney PS pump with ATF or PS fluid.

Just a thought!

I'm guessing the blowback is caused by the pressure inside the pump & high pressure line relieving after shutdown, but unless the tube end of the high pressure line isn't sealing tightly inside the pump that pressure shouldn't be able to escape, correct? The pressure line is looking pretty raggedy like it could blow any time, I'll just get a new one and kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

:ford: has a few different fittings that thread into the PS pump, maybe you can take a pic to verify wich one you have? I had to search around my collection till I found one that matched my Hydroboost hose, wich was different than the satandard hose.

Hope you have HyBoost! cant imagine going back to vacuum...

I considered going to hydroboost on my old truck but didn't since I would have had to keep the vacuum pump for the HVAC controls.

I got a free system from a truck getting scrapped, came with both lines and I used my own pedal and drilled a new hole and pushed in my own pin that I pushed out, welded up the old hole.

Let me say this no more Oh **** *** is that MoFo doing??!! BANG!!!

It is so much better than vacuum it really is easier on my soul.

ever think of the electric vacuum pum? that works great too!

ran out of beer ...
