Interesting idea and concept. What attracted me to PSD trucks was the cool noise they make.

If the PCM can react quickly, couldn't two signals be sent to the IDM to perform a pilot then full injection without replacing injectors ($$$)?

A good idea but as the IDM is presently designed it will not accept two closely spaced pulses./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif I don't think the tables that are loaded by the programmers can change the basic PCM algorithms to send two pulses to the same cylinder either.:(

what's an hpx hose?

Labrat,

That's a good idea but I think the PCM/IDM/injector's on anything before 2003 reacts too slowly to physically do a pilot shot like you want. The 6.0's and pretty much any brand out now has multiple injection event capabilities in the PCM to quiet things down but the 7.3's had a physical splitshot for the cali and 98 up that did this but wasn't controlled by the PCM.

We do need someone to setup a standalone PCM/IDM to run these trucks though that has a few sensor inputs(ICP, CPS) and a separate output driver from the IDM to each injector with another output to the IPR on a quick processor for racing purposes only that would more mimic a dumb-mechanical system due to the fact that there seems to be issues with higher rpm operation.

where is that exactly or is it something that i would have to install? what does it do?

Um. If you really want a quiet diesel I'd either run Veggie, or get an IDI or a 6.0. If you really want to spend the money you could get split shot injectors and a chip with the programming burned on it. To me its not worth it. New injectors quieted my truck down a bit, but i'm not after having a quiet truck.

Just as an FYI the guys who have the really fast trucks (cough).. DI.. use single shot injectors instead of the Splits.

You cannot change the amount of pulses the idm puts out, but you can change the injector timing. A split shot injector is a bit different than a single shot.

I run bio-diesel from time to time when I get to the fuel co-op. It is significantly quieter than fossil. Problem is I get so hungry from smelling exhaust like french-fries that I stop at more fast food joints, spend more money, and negate the savings on filling with bio.

I did take out the entire interrior and coat the floor with a laver of roofing ice and water shield. It too made a big difference. Lots of work but well worth it. I also heard of hot-melt roofing membrane does even better. I just couldnt see myself taking a wand propane torch inside the cab of my truck. My luck, the damn thing would burn to the ground. Of course, it would be real quiet then.

I have the same problem with the munchies from running bio. One month i spent 800 bucks in fast food, and gained 5 lbs.

when i ran with my fan off me and my friend made a joke of it sounding like a duramax..maybe a switch to electric fans might be the way to go.

I went the expensive route and installed Dynamat over most of my floor and inside the door panels. Made the interior at least 50% quieter. I am going to do the back wall and roof next. It is nice being able to *talk* to someone in the cab, as opposed to having to yell. All bets are off when the windows are down /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif
The IDM mod (Joe Servo) and the HPX mod (Tymar) both helped a little, but nothing like the Dynamat.
