Quigley to change to OEM Ford F-350 front axle/brakes

I have not personally verified this with Larry (from Quigley) yet, but I have recently come to understand that Quigley will soon be dropping the Bendix front brakes and Dana 60 converter axle in favor of the Ford F-350 front end brakes and Ford spec Dana 60 axle... in a move to match the offerings of another 4x4 van converter company whose conversions use the Ford parts to make it easier for the van to be serviced at the Ford dealer... using brake, bearing, and steering parts available through the Ford parts system.

I personally think this is a great move on Quigley's part, even if more costly. Some Ford service techs have pulled the front tires off current Quigley vans to address brake issues, only to not recognise the rotors and be dumbfounded at the back parts counter when there is no Ford equivalent match up. An outside parts house must be contacted for Bendix parts. Using Ford F-350 parts will resolve problems like this, ESPECIALLY with the ABS system, making the Quigley that much closer to being an OEM servicable vehicle.

Perhaps Larry from Quigley will join in here and explain more...

I thought that the Ford "spec" axle was actually weaker than a standard Dana 60. Something about the axleshafts thinning at the outside edges.

Was I hearing things?

However, this change, if true, does seem like the right move for service reasons.

The school is still out on the Ford 50 axle. We have been in negotiation with Dana to see if they would install the 3.55 gears for us that a lot of the Powerstroke folks use and is unavailable currently with that axle. Also the axle tubes themselves are half the wall thickness of the Dana 60 we currently use, not to mention that the Ford 50 tapers down to a Dana 44 diameter as it enters the pumpkin. Negotiations are on going. Yes, our demo now sports the Ford 50 so the engineering is in place.Ddi I talk to you at the LA Auto show Robin?
