The F350 are both dana assem.

No. But it's a common mistake - confusing the F-350 SRW and DRW.

That's true only for the F-350 DRW. The F-350 DRW has a Dana 80 rear axle.

But the F-350 SRW has a Ford/Visteon "Sterling" rear axle with a 10.5" ring gear. And yes, beginning with the 2005 model year, the F-350 SRW rear axle is different - heavier duty - than the smiliar Sterling rear axle in the F-250.

How did you know that? I'm not arguing, but I pored over the Fleet spec guides you linked for me, and it says nothing about the DRW using a Dana 80.

It says Visteon for the 350 DRW (page 19).

Visteon "Sterling" rear end is standard on the F-350 DRW. Also standard is is the 5.4L V-8 gasser engine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

But when you order an optional engine, either the V-10 or the PSD, the Dana 80 rear end is part of that option.

I don't know anything about the fleet specs, but if you will go to your dealerperson and ask to see his newest version of the Ford Truck Source Book, then turn to the SuperDuty section, then look until you find "Rear axle specs". There you will see F-350 DRW with 5.4L engine comes with the Visteon rear axle. And you'll see that the F-350 DRW with 6.8L or 6.0L engines have the Dana 80 rear axle.

Another way is to simply go to the dealer's new truck lot and crawl under some trucks. You'll see that all F-350 DRW PSD pickups have a Dana 80 rear end. (You can tell by the shape of the diff cover which is which.) The F-250s and F-350 SRWs all have the Visteon rear end, if you need to be sure what one looks like. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/warmsmile.gif

Or click here to see a Visteon diff cover, and click here for the shape of a Dana 80 diff cover.

One obvious difference is the fill plug for the Visteon is on the case, and the diff cover doesn't have one. But the Dana 80 diff cover includes a fill plug. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So, does the SRW get a similar treatment, or the F250?

[/ QUOTE ]

Regardless of engine, the SRWs have the same rear axle. The F-250 and the F-350 SRW both have Ford/Visteon "Sterling" rear axles with 10.5" ring gear. On 2005-up PSDs, the F-350 SRW axle is heavier-duty than the F-250 axle, but looks the same at a casual glance.

So only on the F-350 DRW does the engine make a difference in which brand of rear axle is fitted at the factory.
