As soon as my engine fires off, I get a large puff of white smoke out the tailpipe. Clears up immediately one the engine is running. Interesting watching all that smoke drift by as the wind blows it past the front of the truck.

Truck seems to run fine...

Ideas? Unburned fuel?

check the glow plugs. this is common with one bad glow plug. mine does it. i know which plug it is, just dont feel like pulling it and replacing it. once you do one, the rest go bad next week. when a second one goes bad, i will do them all. yes it is unburnt fuel. the idi will run on 4 cold cylinders. blows smoke for about 4-5 seconds but it will do it. if you start it with a 150' or above water temp, you are likely to see a light puff off black, with no white. as the cylinders are pre-heated already. take alook with a test light, you are likely to find the one that is bad..

This in normal for a diesel, it is unburnt fuel and almost all diesels will put out a puff at start up. If your truck starts fine I doubt your glow plugs need attention. Remember diesels need heat to burn the fuel and the engine is cold so not all is going to burn when the starter first turns the motor over and until there is enough heat to burn the fuel is will be passed out the exhaust as white smoke, nothing to worry about, this is normal.......... Just drive it, change the oil, drive it more, add Power Serve, drive it some more

if the light in the morning is cycling faster than it use to, it likely has two or three gone bad. mine stays on for 3-4 days, and always hits on the first strike, so i could care less about the one that i know has gone south with Baja.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
