hello,

I'm looking for some advice on my diesel. It seems I'm having an issue once the truck warms up and has accelerated to 2000 rpm's in 4th gear and 2500 rpm's in 5th. It seems to move well in 1st thru 3rd. I just replaced the fuel filter thinking this would clear it up but it hasnt. The engine feels as if its not getting the fuel once strained. The wire harness has already been replaced from previous issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have also notice as of lately a beeping sound going off. This doesnt happen continuosly but does happen every trip. It normally beeps three times and then stops for an extended period. Again thanks for any help!

What kind of running problems? Does it just feel like you have no power above 2000 rpms? If so you could check your fuel pressure at before and after the filter (plugs on the filter bowl for both) Or you could have something else going on, but we need more information.

The beeping sound could be the ABS light on the dash is burned out. I have not seen this or heard this happen myself. But I have heard that if the ABS light is burnt out there is a beep tone at start-up. When you first turn your key on do you get an ABS light? If not, try replacing the bulb and see if the beeping goes away.

Thanks for asking about my problems. The best way to explain is if I'm in 4th gear and run the rpm's up to 2500 if feels as if the motor starts to cut out loses power. The turbo sounds fine and the truck does not smoke before the problem occurs or after! The same goes for 5th gear @ 2000 rpms. It also seems that it doesnt recover after this happens. I can let off the fuel and slow down and here a difference in the sound of the motor but it will soon clear up. Then it may run ok until you run the rpms back up. I was almost sure I had bought bad fuel but Ihave emptied the tank and replace with new fuel. I done this when I changed out the fuel filter. I also went ahead and changed air and oil filters while I was working. I hope this will help dont really know how else to explain it...

Thanks in advance!

actually yes i have rev'd the engine up while in nuetral and it does seem to be a little hesitant around 2000 rpms but is fine while driving it. This truck is 410 geared because its a work truck so of course first 3 lots of torque.

Just wanted to clear up my above post.

When I rev the motor up in neutral it will hesitate slightly around the 2000rpmmark or just after. This is where I felt it while in 4th or 5th gear. Again truck does not smoke when this happens. I drove it last night 10 miles and back and never had a problem! But its done this several times just the same and been good in between times but always good on short trips which leads me up to believe its a problem after it gets hot.

My 02 Ex is doing the same thing I dropped fuel tank and the pickup screen deteriated and was being sucked in the pickup tube. I replaced and after about 25mi. on highway same thing I think the fuel pump might have been strained from lack of fuel. Ford sells just the rubber pickup screen but where it attaches is a plastic case with two filter screens inside-mine was clogged replaced the whole sending unit.

If you are in third gear do you feel the same hesitation at 2k or above? You could have a fuel pickup issue like mentioned above. A fuel pressure gauge on a hose routed out the hood will tell. The pickups in the tank are a poor design. Most guys opt to do the "Hutch mod". Most of the vendors on here sell a kit to do this pretty cheap. If your resourceful you can get all the items on your own and you may save a little cash. There is lots of documentation on this just google it. GUZZLES POWERSTROKE PAGE HAS GOOD INSTRUCTIONS.

I cant feel this in third however I'm wondering if the truck was strained in the lower gears if I wouldnt. I'll definitely check out this website you posted and I do appreciate it very much! I may hook up the hudson trailer and load it down to see if I can make it do the same in lower gears...
