Can anyone tell me if there is a different Computer and wiring harness for a 1996 7.3L Powerstroke with an Automatic Transmission / going to a Manual Transmission.

I need to replace my Automatic transmission and I would like to convert to a manual transmission.

Any input on what I am up against is appreciated.

Thank you.

You should be able to convert from auto to manual without messing with the computer or wiring harness.

I know that on my truck, the PCM came from a truck with an automatic in it. The PCM just ignores what's not there.

Not absolutely sure on the OBS trucks, but I suspect it's the same.

The computer is the same, but the software in the computer is different. A PCM with a manual transmission has a software switch that turns off the part of the software that controls the automatic transmission. The wiring is different, too.

From a casual look at the 1996 EVTM, here are the noted differences at the PCM connector (C1027):

With E4OD:

Pin 1, Circuit 315 (P/O), Transmission Shift Solenoid #2
Pin 14, Circuit 784 (LB/BK), 4x4 Low Input
Pin 27, Circuit 237 (O/Y), Transmission Shift Solenoid #1
Pin 28, Circuit 480 (P/Y), Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid
Pin 29, Circuit 224 (T/W), Transmission Control Switch
Pin 37, Circuit 923 (O/BK), Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor
Pin 53, Circuit 924 (BR/O), Transmission Coast Clutch Solenoid
Pin 64, Circuit 199 (LB/Y), Transmission Range (TR) Sensor
Pin 79, Circuit 911 (W/LG), Transmission Control Indicator Lamp
Pin 81, Circuit 925 (W/Y), Transmission Electronic Pressure Control

With 5-Speed Manual:

Pin 29, Circuit 306 (T/LB), Clutch Pedal Position Switch

Note that Pin 29 is used for either application (just different circuits/functions). Hope that helps! Cheers!

Differances.....

The main harness is the Same..
The clutch safety switch plug is there under the dash and has a jumper in it.
The trans harness is differant.
You can almost plug and play.
I had to sort out a few pins..

The PCM is differant...
I tried running a Auto PCM , But the tuning on the Auto is more aggressive than a Manual.

The throttle response is super touchie and almost un driveable.

Good Luck

Everyone: I would like to say thank you! I was wanting to have FORD do the change over but when I brought it up to the service department the person that I spoke with started saying how all these things would have to be looked into and that it probably would not be worth it. I tow a 15 thousand pound 5th wheel with a boat behind it. I was hoping to change to a manual transmission for better control and of course better towing capabilities.

Right now I have a K&N Air Intake, Newly Rebuilt Injectors but nothing fancy like I want, I use a Max Energy Hypertech Tuner(but the injectors are holding her back), and I just had FORD rebuild my engine due to a broken piston and at the same time I had them install an aftermarket downpipe but I stayed with a 3" opening (due to lack of funds).

Can I rebuild my injectors with a DIY Kit to get more POWER?
What else can I do besides the exhaust to gain more power?
And,
How do people get their POWERSTROKES to blow out the plumes of black smoke?

Thank You Everyone!
