E4OD solenoid pack bad?

Keep getting ePc fault code. Electronic pressure control. Went and changed the solenoid pack and filled with fluid, fired up the truck and automatically goes into limp mode, put it in D and goes directly to 4th and goes no where. Seems like I only have 2 and 4th gears. Torque converter won't lock up. What to do. Did I get a bad pack?

No, it probably is not the solenoids. It is probably the power feed to the solenoids. I think you have a wiring problem.

Fixing wiring is easy. Finding the bad part is hard. Once you find it solder the two broken ends together, or if it's intact but the insulation is gone, heat shrink it.

Testing the solenoids involves putting 12 volts across the pins. You can do it with the pan on if you have an old harness with the connector. Listen for the solenoids to click as you put 12 volts across each one, one at a time. With the pan off you can do it directly on the solenoids themselves.

What are the chances that four solenoids failed at the same time? You're more likely to win the lottery without buying a ticket. What's the chance of a wiring harness getting damaged and affecting three wires? Pretty darn good. Don't go after the solenoids, it's a waste of time. It's the wiring.

If it's intact but the insulation is gone you'll have to use heat shrink tape (meh) or cut it and splice it to heat shrink it. You can get some "liquid electrical tape" stuff in a can which is surprisingly good if you get it all the way around the wire. I've used it for other stuff too and it is more durable than you might imagine.

If it Turns out to be wiring, what do I have to take off to find the wires?

What I was trying to say earlier, is that I had one problem With original pack(p1748-epc) I changed the pack and I had a different problem. (1st problem it wouldn't stay in gear, and 2nd problem I've only got 2nd and 4th gear with od light flashing. )

The PCM is near the parking brake pedal. The other end of the transmission wiring is on the passenger's side of the transmission. Are you asking me where in this length something was damaged? I'm squinting, but I'm having a hard time seeing your truck.

Sometimes the least expensive way to fix a difficult problem is to pay someone that knows how to do it.

I thought you were saying that wires inside the trans were pinched/ destroyed. So I'm looking for wiring on the pass side of trans and see if I can find a break some where. Outside of the trans not inside correct?

Yes, outside. It can be anywhere from the transmission connector to the PCM.

e4od Problems

I know that it was a while ago, you had a trans problem on 6-19-11. From a confersation with Mark, you found the problem, fixed it, but did say what the problem was. Could you share this info with me, I,m looking for the same ghost? Thanks:ford:

I need more details. What year is it? What kind of truck is it?

If it is stuck in 4th gear it has overdrive, since 4th gear IS overdrive. Fourth gear is the gear the trans will go to if the solenoids don't have power.

I have power to my solenoid pack. Actually have good power everywhere and fresh ground wires. I found that I only have 2.83 volts at the eec output terminal in the fuse block. I ran a jumper wire to the terminal plugged the eec back in...still no fix. I've checked over so many things and fixed everything visible..I'd appreciate some other input on this. I've literally tried everything from every thread I've read.

This is on a 93 idi, e4od trans obviously
Thanks in advance

Hi I had a question that somebody might know before I give up and take my truck to a shop. I have a 96 f250 7.3 with the e4od in it. Trans was rebuilt by Ford before I got it and the issue I’m having with it is that it’s not wanting to shift into overdrive until I give it heavy throttle then as soon as I get out of the throttle it then goes back into 3rd. Also shifting from 1st to 2nd is a very hard shift but the other 2 are smooth

You guys who are tagging on to an old post would be better off starting your own thread, fully describing your issue, and being sure to include your truck year, engine, etc.
