I am not affiliated with this I just wanted everyone out there to know about this. There is a new short shifter on the market now. www.midwesttrans.com is now making short shifters for our trucks for a lot lower price than the other people. Give them a call and talk to Dan and he can hook you up. They will be able to ship on March 9th... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

I have already spoken to him. I will be ordering mine either today or Monday. They are quite a bit cheaper than the other guys.

BD was just way overpriced but they were the only ones who offered one. The sad part was that the BD Dodge model was around $200 and the Ford was around $350. It's basically just a spacer and some other misc. parts. You can buy much better made short shifters for Mustangs, Camaroes and imports for around $150.

Keep us posted on how the new shifter performs. I sure would like a short shifter but I don't want to fork over $400 for one. $175 sounds more reasonable. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I got mine in today and here are some pics of it. http://photos.thedieselstop.com/showphot...ium&thecat= I couldn't install it because the rubber boot on top of my tranny was busted as you can see in another pic.... It is very high quality though and looks just as good as the factory one...

Get it in yet?

I installed mine a few weeks ago. It works great! Shifting is actually easier. Since the throw is about 40%-50% less I can shift much faster. I don't race my truck. I use it for work and towing the horse trailer. When going up hills and shifting the rpms drop less since the shift is faster with less effort. Which gives a smoother shift and happier horses. I would highly recommend this shifter. I had a problem removing my old shifter and Mid Wests support was incredible. He talked me through it and made the install very easy.

I didn't get it when I looked at your linked picture. It looked like the longer lever arm wouldn't fit. Then I saw your photo of the spacer for the shifter tower. How thick is it, and how much does it raise the shift tower? Does the boot still work OK, or is that why yours is broken?

A buddy offered to sell me one of the others, but for what he was asking, I could row a little further. For the price of this one, it might be worth looking into.

I ordered one from Midwest Transmission and it came in a couple of days ago. I'll be installing it this weekend.

I have no problems at all. I have got so used to it that I forget that I installed it. I would get it again in a heart beat. One of the best mods around.

I have had my Midwest short shift in for almost a year now and I would do it again. No issues at all.

I had a BD in my old truck, I got it when they first came out, I know I paid less than $200 for it back then before BD jacked the price up. the short shifter is not worth $400, especially when you see what you get when you open the box, but if you guys can get this other one for $175 that's a great deal, you'll love the way your 6 speed will shift with a short shifter!!

Any pictures with the shifter installed?

Jeb

I don't have any pictures. You use the original stick shift. So when it is installed it looks the exact same as stock. What changes is under the shifter boot. It basically changes the leverage of the shifter? Not sure if I am wording it correctly. Maybe a better way of saying it is it changes the angle of the shifter and shift tower on top of the tranny that gives it a shorter distance to go from one side of the shift pattern to the other.

I just called Midwest Trans and the short shift kit is still $175. I think I am going to order one tonight. Has anyone had any problems with theirs?

I finally got my kit in the mail today. There was no order form, no instructions, nothing but some parts. I ordered last monday...paid with a credit card...they waited until thursday to ship. It was like pulling teeth to get a tracking #. Anyway, I pulled my truck apart. Went to install the new short throw shifter...It is the wrong part. I have six bolts holding my shifter in. The spacer that they sent me has a 4 bolt pattern. Man this sucks. Oh well I better go put my truck back to stock, I still have to drive to work tomorrow.
