Hello, Now that you guys have run the short shifters a while are they still working ok and has anyone had any problems from them? Thanks Mark

I have had my Midwest short shift in for almost a year now and I would do it again. No issues at all.

I had a BD in my old truck, I got it when they first came out, I know I paid less than $200 for it back then before BD jacked the price up. the short shifter is not worth $400, especially when you see what you get when you open the box, but if you guys can get this other one for $175 that's a great deal, you'll love the way your 6 speed will shift with a short shifter!!

I have no problems at all. I have got so used to it that I forget that I installed it. I would get it again in a heart beat. One of the best mods around.

Any pictures with the shifter installed?

Jeb

I don't have any pictures. You use the original stick shift. So when it is installed it looks the exact same as stock. What changes is under the shifter boot. It basically changes the leverage of the shifter? Not sure if I am wording it correctly. Maybe a better way of saying it is it changes the angle of the shifter and shift tower on top of the tranny that gives it a shorter distance to go from one side of the shift pattern to the other.

I just called Midwest Trans and the short shift kit is still $175. I think I am going to order one tonight. Has anyone had any problems with theirs?

Sorry I misunderstood what a shorter shifter meant. Was wondering. I could see a slightly shorter lever but not that I would pay much for. A tighter shift pattern would be nice.

The shifter is the same height. On the Midwest short throw the distance from first to second is 40% less than stock. Makes shifting faster and smoother. And you don't get the shifter in the knee when going into granny gear.

I finally got my kit in the mail today. There was no order form, no instructions, nothing but some parts. I ordered last monday...paid with a credit card...they waited until thursday to ship. It was like pulling teeth to get a tracking #. Anyway, I pulled my truck apart. Went to install the new short throw shifter...It is the wrong part. I have six bolts holding my shifter in. The spacer that they sent me has a 4 bolt pattern. Man this sucks. Oh well I better go put my truck back to stock, I still have to drive to work tomorrow.

short shifter ordered today

I just ordered mine. They have a part coming in and will ship asap. Sound like it will be nice.

Midwest trans Short Shifter installed last nite.

Hi Everyone,
Just installed my Midwest Trans short shifter last nite on my 2003 f350 4x4. It took all of an hour or so. It did require a stubby #2 phillips and a special socket to remove the stick shift that i had from the clutch job. There were no instructions but it went fine. I used silicone to seal the spacer so no oil would leak. I love how it shifts now. The shift pattern is like a sports cars pattern. This is how it should be from the factory.
The only thing i have to do is reinstall the shift boot. It must not be seated correctly as i am getting noise from the boot area.

Love it. $300 was way to much but this is sweet.

What i meant was $175 was a better price, since i wasnt willing to pay the other guys $300.

Bringing this thread up from the dead! Anyone that put one in. You still like it? Had any problems with them? Amd would you do it again. The shifting on the ZF6 feels extremely loose and really long shifts.

I'd be interested in any feed back too!

no issues at all. shifts great even when very cold. would buy again.

I have no issues at all. It works great. I actually forget what it was like to shift with the stock shifter. It was worth every penny.

found this thread. since its been some time. how does everyone like the short throw? any reliability problems?
