PCM coolant temp input

I have been checking out my AutoEnginuity and I noticed while live monitoring the engine coolant temp input is way off. At cold startup it shows over 400 degrees F, then as it warms up it will drop to single digits. Yesterday it did not do this, it was reading around 260 all day. Can someone tell me where the sensor is located that gives the PCM its signal? The dash gauge is working normally.

Thanks, Brian

In looking at my manual, it looks like there may be 6 sensors?

I'd be careful with relying on scantools data sometimes. I can't tell you how many times I've found scanners lying about values. I would go directly to the CTS and check for correct resistance and voltage.

The CTS location is on the front of the engine near the upper radiator hose/thermostat area.

I'd like to do that TransBrain but I can't seem to find it. I found the one for the dash gauge right by the T stat housing, I found the oil pressure switch on top of the hpop, I found the exhaust backpressure sensor right by the base of the hpop. The manual points right to the area by the hpop, but I just can't find it.

I did notice that when the coolant warms up, the input display shows 265 to 270 degrees with the AC on and ambient of 105. Does this sound normal?

AE does not measure the coolant temperature - you are getting an erroneous reading. The coolant temperature is not used by the PCM so you are not accessing it (not sure what AE is reading....).

Oil temperature is used for the PCM manipulations...

So you can disregard the Coolant reading from AE.

This is correct if the vehicle has an auto trans and if so, the TFT (trans fluid temp sensor) takes the place of the CTS. However, a CTS is monitored by the PCM on vehichles equipped with a manual trans.

I did see that the manual tranny has the CTS. I don't know either what AE is reading, guess I could start unplugging stuff to find out.
