Water pump -curved or straight inlet pipe?

I started smelling antifreeze, and noticed my degas bottle dropping slightly, and when I grabbed the water pump pulley I could rock it back and forth an eighth inch. Also noticed what appears to be some streaking from behing the WP pulley, so it's time to replace... My question, though, is the water pump pictures I see from suppliers show a curved inlet (bottom) pipe, while mine is straight - is this an "option" or a different pump? Also, any comments if one pump brand is better than another? Thanks!

Its and earlier style (curved) versus later style (short straight) - you'll have to change hoses if you go with one different than what you have (or swap the inlet) - Where are you looking at getting your pump? The AIRTEX is the factory OEM pump - best price is RockAuto and Tousley. Here's a 5% coupon from RockAuto -

Thanks; I asked a supplier, and apparently you can get the replacement pump any way you want as long as it's curved... No straight pipe offered with it. Seems a waste. I replaced my hoses 20K miles ago, so I will reuse mine. I ordered from Rockauto; they were a couple bucks more than the lowest on *bay but they are a sponsor of this site.

I'm probably gonna get yelled at, but I went curved and just cut my hose to fit. The straight I had on the Excursion rusted terribly and did not seem as robust as the curved so I got my knife out! My 99 has the curved, the Ex was straight. So far no leaks. My 2 cents for what it's worth. Dave
